I'm back...with a conditional job offer!
Hi, everyone.
After a few months to keep working on my writing, volunteering at a nonprofit and taking an online class (which is actually still in progress), I come back with good news.
Last month, I had an interview with an in-house staffing agency for a major employer in my area. They conduct screening with applicants for open temporary jobs and then place those hired in the jobs. You are then in their system and they can send you out on other jobs after your first one is complete, just like a normal agency, except they only place workers within this company. The employer has many offices around the area, so you can work pretty much anywhere on any schedule.
Well, anyway, the job is full time for three months in a customer service type of role. Although there are no benefits, the pay is good, so I took my chances.
So today, after the company finally managed to contact my references (they could not get a hold of some of them...guess I need to update my reference list!), I got a phone call from the recruiter. She told me I got a conditional offer, and on Tuesday, I have to go to her office to sign my offer letter and pick up an introductory packet. I am assuming they still have to do background checks, and she said I have to do a phone interview with the person who will be my actual supervisor, but I am so excited right now!
I know this is only a temporary job, but I am just grateful to have something. There are perks, though. Despite no health insurance, like I said...I am in their system now so I can take other temp jobs after this one is over should I get it. I can also apply for full-time jobs that are posted internally.
The only thing I feel bad about is that if everything comes through, I will have to leave my volunteer job. I have only been there for a month, so that's why I wouldn't feel that great, but I need a paid job; not a work-for-free gig. However, I have decided not to say anything until the offer is official. Since it's only conditional, I am worried about what could happen.
I hope others can start getting jobs soon too!
