Job listings say the unemployed need not apply
Hundreds of job opening listings posted on Monster.com and other jobs sites explicitly state that people who are unemployed would be less attractive applicants, with some telling the long-term unemployed to not even bother with applying.

This is definitely discrimination !
Shouldn't something like this be against the law or illegal ?

It should be and a law is being worked on to make it illegal but you know how things are in Washington these days.
I personally feel that employers will just find another reason to deny the unemployed. At least if it were against the law some people could sue and maybe win.

New in the corporation I put 15 years in... Used to be (up until three weeks ago) "A combination of Education and Experience" ... now it is BA degree required. Before you can apply you have to state that you meet the requirement and will be disqualified if you can't prove it at some point in the hiring process. Leaves me out for the jobs I am qualified and trained for.
Thank goodness for contract work; all they want to know there is "Have you done the job before?" and (unspoken... let alone written) can you mentor the newbees get them up to speed on the applications, before we kick you out the door again.

My husband has noticed the education requirements in job posts also. Now they want advanced degrees for a job that he has many years of experience. Can't tell you how frustrating that is! You are eliminated before you even apply. One recruiter had the audacity to ask him if he would have a problem having to take orders from a young boss.
