Cut off at 52 weeks in California
At the end of 52 weeks the checks stopped coming, I received a form in the mail stated that I had been awarded 52 more weeks. So I waiting and filled out the bi-weekly form asking the qualifying questions and sent it in. No checks came in the mail, so I sent an email to the EDD and they responded that I needed to have worked in the last 12 months in order to qualify for extended benefits. I was under the impression extended benefits were based on the original claim.
Nowhere on the Cal EDD web page link for extended benefits to 99 weeks does it state that you need to show income within a 12 month period of your claim. The EDD see's my daily activity on their web page looking and applying for jobs and that I continue to tell the truth that I haven't found a job. (4 interviews in 1 year)
My question is; how did people qualify for 99 weeks but didn't find a job within a 12/24 month period?
Thanks
Jim V

Re: Cut off at 52 weeks in California
You only need to have enough qualifying weeks to start a new claim. Most states it is at least 20 weeks in a calender year.
The extensions in this recession did not have you work any weeks, under President Clinton it did in the early 90's.
I think you made a simple mistake and open a new claim. That happen to me in Ohio. Someone at your Unemployment Office messed you up. You need to call to extend for the extensions. Don't confuse this with filing a new claim. The computer does not like it!
Many of us 99ers had to spend hours waiting on the phone to get the extensions. Each time it happen it took weeks. Please contact your State Unemployment Office by phone.

Call your state unemployment office! It sounds like it is the BYE date if it is occurring at 52 weeks. If that is the case, it should be easy to straighten out.
Good luck and please call them on Monday!

Something is messed up Jim. I got one of those confusing letters about extensions and it was a mistake. They fixed it. My husband and I had difficulty getting through on the telephone. We ended up emailing them and they responded, though it's better to talk to a live person about this if you can.
You need to be aware that ALL extensions end on December 31, 2011 as it now stands. You won't get 99 weeks. And, anyone who gets laid off NOW only gets 26 weeks. Washington DC says the recession is over.

Thanks for the quick reply:
The claim I received did state new claim at the top. I will email the EDD and try to call them and talk to someone live (Ha!) on Monday.
I was thinking it was me who made a mistake, more than likely a computer generated mistake.

Re: Cut off at 52 weeks in California
When I set up my benefit year end last summer I received a letter stating I wasn't eligible for a new claim but then I went back on the tier system and continued collecting.
Make sure you keep filing and call them back until you get someone who knows what they are talking about.
Tell them you think you are at your Benefit year end and that will clue them in to what they need to do.
It should be a simple fix.

Re: Cut off at 52 weeks in California
Wow I have called their phone system is down due to heavy call volumes.
I have email them everyday with no response, I feel that after 35 years of putting into the UI, it would be easy to get an answer!
My last check was for week ending 6/19/11 so money is getting tight.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Cut off at 52 weeks in California
Ok I have been through this before and I feel what I am about to tell you is very important.
Get through to them on the phone as soon as you possibly can.
The I get through is to call 2 minutes before they open. You will get a message stating that they are closed. Hang up and immediatly hit redial until they open, usually you will be put on hold to talk to someone so stay on hold as long as it takes.
It took me two weeks to get through to them last year when I had to do the same thing and they wouldn't pay me the two weeks I missed because it took me too long to call. You can always send that to an adjudicator but it will take a long time to get paid.
I have never recieved a repply to an email unless I email someone in particular. They are just overwhelmed with people,
