Democratic leaders confer with Obama on debt accord
Democratic congressional leaders conferred at the White House with Obama amid growing indications that the president is close to an accord with House Speaker John Boehner on a deal allowing the government's borrowing limit to be raised in return for spending cuts.
Nonetheless there was anxiety on the left side of the party that Obama might be on the verge of conceding too much in order to get an agreement with Republican leaders.
The progressive Democratic group MoveOn.org issued a statement Thursday afternoon warning of a potential "betrayal of everything Democrats stand for.”
“Reports that the White House is negotiating a secret debt deal directly with House Republicans that could include deep cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security with limited or no immediate revenue increases are deeply troubling," the group's executive director Justin Rubin said. “The Democratic base did not work night and day to elect Democrats so that they could cave to Tea Party extremists...."

Re: Democratic leaders confer with Obama on debt accord
Do you think if this was true that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would not be on every morning show today screaming. I think every news station has been left out of the loop and they are scraping to get the news and they just post their opinions. I think we all need to remain calm and see what comes. I do not think there will be a deal for unemployment or the 99ers. At this point, I think it will be an agreement to raise the ceiling and agree to continue this comedy/tragedy for the next 6 months. All the economists and those in the know about the CBO,(not meant to be a joke) say they cannot strike any kind of long term deal and get it scored. Not that they won't extend it, but it's too late now to get anything through the CBO, much less debates and votes. 12 days, that's it.
Don't forget, this is already money spent, not future spending, we've borrowed this and agreed to repay it. We cannot default on this. We can make a seperate budget to control spending and raise taxes which should be done and not have all this Cut, Cap and Bend Over crap attached to it. I posted this in another thread, would any of us still have jobs if we did them this badly??? I will cheat and give you the answer, NO. btw, Congress is not working this weekend. Give you any idea of how seriously they are taking this.

OF COURSE! Well the important thing is that, ONCE AGAIN, republicans will get more then they even asked for as part of this "big deal" and democrats will get absolutely nothing. More importantly, average Americans will get absolutely nothing as well. SO DISGUSTED.....

Hopefully, that vile plan will show voters what kind of program will be enacted if we end up with a Republican President and Republican Congress.

People seem to either have short term memories, or they enjoy pain. We had everyone on board, going in the same direction, and what happened? The people voted in the yahoos that are in office, now- oops, I mean shirking work- in a crisis situation, using taxpayer money, and at the expense of this country's wellfare.
