Cut federal debt, Americans say, even if that slows economy
Despite lingering anxiety over the Great Recession, Americans by a large margin want their federal government to focus more on cutting debt than on increasing spending even temporarily to boost the economy, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.
Given a choice, 59 percent of Americans prefer reducing debt even if that slows the economic recovery, while 33 percent prefer new government efforts to stimulate the economy even if it means more federal spending.
The public mood helps explain the political environment in the nation's capital, where talk of new stimulus plans for the weak recovery has faded and both major parties are looking at deep cuts in annual federal budget deficits, even if they wouldn't yet reduce the $14 trillion debt.

Oh, please. This is a neo-Conservative website talking up their own poll. If you look at polls conducted by neutral third-party organizations, they show totally opposite results.
Whenever you evaluate polling, you have to look carefully at how the poll was conducted, and by whom, and who paid for it.
To quote Mark Twain, "There are three types of untruths in the world - Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics."

x3. This poll reflects the Tea Party only. Not that every poll can be believed, but there are roughly 6 out there right now that show the direct opposite on the Republican and Democratic side, they are tired of the DC bickering over peoples benefits and they want Jobs. Nothing else is on their minds. They are not looking for Social Security Cuts, Medicare Cuts or additional tax cuts, they want Jobs.

Thank you, Mary Kay. It's nice to see we agree on the facts, at least, even if we draw different conclusions therefrom

Right on Mary Kay. What we want are results, which are good paying jobs. The rest could take care of itself by increasing our income. Giving the rich more income is not the answer. We need a second stimulus that will put many people to work quickly. Forget all the nonesense and stupid rules.

Morons don't realize that if they could agree on a great job creation package and if many people were hired and dropped off the unemployment rolls that man thebudget wouldwould be fixed to a degree because of al the additional revenues! But they do not want to do that! Because during economical hard times and recessions is when the RICH and oil co's and wall street capitalize and roll in hugh profits. So why mess that up for them! Thats why Obama has crossed over and also the repubs. fight so hard for rich tax cuts!! Go Figure!!!
