Finally an interview
So yesterday I had an interview after a while. It was surprising to see only 9 people were there and 2 others were applying for the same job. Turned out to be a group interview.
Funny thing is, throughout the interview I kept thinking to myself "This has to be a scam. These guys are probably running some kind of scam." even though I was in a huge facility with their brand name on the front. lol
They said they will let everyone know in 1-2 days for a second interview. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Re: Finally an interview
Interview techniques are so bizarre these days. Employers have taken this abysmal job market, and gotten 'creative' in their approaches. Not sure what purpose it accomplishes at the end the day, other than substantiating some HR officer's reason for existence. Kind of like saying "hey, look at me, I am getting creative with the hiring process".

Re: Finally an interview
A local morning radio show in my area discussed bizarre interview questions. Some of the questions were absolutely ridiculous and had nothing to do with the job being applied for. I wish I could remember some of the ones they mentioned. The DJ said it is to get a better idea of the applicants personality and also stated that its getting way out of hand. He named a few big companies to look out for when applying to jobs there.
I was shocked that the radio station took the time to research it to be honest.

Yeah, it was kind of bizarre. Had the scam feelling all over it. But it was a legit company though. Don't know what their thought process was.

Good luck! I'm crossing my fingers, and toes, for you! Please let us know how everything goes with it.
Speaking of bizarre interview questions, when I told an interviewer at one job I went for that I sing in a local band (Because he wanted to know what my interests were), he asked me sing something. How weird is that? The funny thing is that I did, and while I didn't get the job, he and his wife ended up at one of the band's gigs and dropped a ten in our tip jar!

Re: Finally an interview
I got kicked out of an interview once. They wanted me to sign a consent form so they could draw blood. Not pee in a cup (which offends me, but I have resigned myself to tolerating that.) But blood--you'd have to tell me exactly what you're looking for, and I bet you won't tell me cause you don't want to admit what...so it's not gonna happen. It's just as well that they saved us both time in the begining.
And the job was for designing new and improved gurneys for corpse dissections. You'd think that they'd pretty much perfected all the possible features for that piece or equipent by maybe the 1939, with some minor electrical accessories and that would be it. Whatever you were doing to improve them, they would still have your basic fluid gutter that directed everything to a hole in the table. Please note that the collection bucket is is sold seperatly. It said so above the photo. You might want to know that if you're in the market for one.
.
"So what could it be that they'd want to improve?" I wondered, "better blood gutters, or...what?" Must have been pretty important because they didn't want anyone who was, you know, on drugs or something designing it--a poor design could maim for life, or even kill a....corpse.
Well, it didn't matter since they kicked me out and now I'll never find out unless I get on one of those fancy things some day. But that's problematic too. Oh well.

Re: Finally an interview
hahaha, my girlfriend who worked for a trucking company, was called up to donate every time a trucker was required to give. They knew she was clean. She told me she must have peed for over 1000 truckers in 30 years.

Re: Finally an interview
Last summer I had a 'surprise' impromptu logic exam popped on me at an interview at Merrill Lynch/BoA here in NJ. The idiot recruiter told me nothing about it before going in for the interview. It was a disgrace. I had Mr MBA interviewing me, who just got his MBA from a local ho hum run of the mill College. Who obviously thought he was all that. I bet he could not manage his way out of a paper bag. It was pathetic. It was clear he did a google search, and just printed this nonsense logic quiz from the internet. A real waste of MY time and the company's resources. It got to the point, where I wanted to say, "you know, this interview is over. If you want to just fill your time, we can sit and talk about the weather if you'd like, but other than that, there is really nothing further to talk about at this point".
I was told I did "well" on the interview. But they were really looking for an IT person. Which I am certainly not, and is obvious from my resume. Funny, because the job description also said absolutely nothing about looking for an IT person.

If it's a turd, I don't know what kind it is, but hasn't anyone ever told you that you can't polish one? (sometimes you have to explain these things to Flyers fans)

Ah, I almost forgot...not too long ago, one place rushed me into a room the second I got in the door and fingerprinted me before they even interviewed me. I was so shocked that I didn't even object. I can still kick myself for that, especially since I didn't get the job anyway.

Re: Finally an interview
Some of the questions for software-related positions weren't really that ridiculous. I remember problems like those from discrete mathematics class, e.g. one sounded like a hashing function. But I don't remember how to solve them so I wouldn't get the job either. And besides I'm drinking a beer right now and might hurt myself if I tried.
But yes, most of them were ridiculous...like maybe they were testing to see if you would have the nerve to tell them that they were asking a ridiculous question or if you would try to make something up.
