99ers need your help today tommorrow and until HR589 is passed-*3/11/11 *Updated list of Co-Sponsors
First topic message reminder :
Yes we are all feeling like HR589 doesnt have a chance, based on our past experience and long wait for a hand up. We have to trust in Mr. G, and keep forging on. they are now asking that we contact our senators asap, it appears that the house passed legislation to cut $60 billion plus from federal programs on saturday, it is now on to the senate. This may be our chance contact your senators and request that any compromises made to this $60billion cut legislation include the passage of HR589. Tell them your story...Tell them as a constituent that you are asking for their help, not a hand out, a hand up, the unemployed and the 99ers have been living the great depression for over 3 years..
Contact your senator and tell them to include HR589 with the legislation to cut the $60billion plus from federal programs...If they need to compromise, then help those that have been out of work for 3 years and havent had a helping hand for almost one year...they are losing their homes, their lifes, when will they pay attention.
Contact your house rep tell them to co sponsor HR 589 and get it out of committee..contact Boehner, Cantor etc...but more importantly contact your state rep.
Yes we are feeling hopeless, but as long as there is hope, shame on us for not continuing to try to get this passed..think of those that are worse off than ourselves, those that are not here with us and therefore dont have a voice, those that have just given up completely and have lost everything..if we can save just one other than our selves, it will be worth our time and effort...No one said this would be easy. Unemployment is easy but we are living it...The people of egypt spoke up, the people in WI are speaking up, the 99ers need to speak up...there might not be many of us here on this or other sites, but that only means that you have to double and triple your efforts...we need to get this out of committee, once it is out watch how many followers we then have...so dont feel your efforts are for nothing

I dont get it. If there are 69 co-sponsers, what is the committee waiting for? What does it take to get a bill out of committee?

I see this as a good sign that more co sponsored during the break...that means they are still actively working on this bill.

I just got this tweet from rep.Judy Chu
RepJudyChu Judy Chu
@unemployed_mass I am a cosponsor! The Majority's No Jobs Agenda isn't creating jobs so we must help those who can't find work get by

I looked at the list of co sponsors on opencongress.org which shows 67 names and her name isnt there...is she the latest to jump on board? if so, that would make 70 right?

The updated list of the 69 sponsors is on this thread. She is not on it, so that would make 70!

B.
Committee Action - The bill is referred to the appropriate committee by the Speaker of the House or the presiding officer in the Senate. Most often, the actual referral decision is made by the House or Senate parliamentarian. Bills may be referred to more than one committee and it may be split so that parts are sent to different committees.""""The Speaker of the House may set time limits on committees."""" Bills are placed on the calendar of the committee to which they have been assigned. Failure to act on a bill is equivalent to killing it. Bills in the House can only be released from committee without a proper committee vote by a discharge petition signed by a majority of the House membership (218 members).
The Speaker of the House may set time limits on committees...Do the time limits have to be set when the bill is first introduced???Or can the time limit be set at any time???I'm going to e-mail the John Boehner the Speaker of the House and request he set a time limit for the ways & means committee on bill H.R.589...Do not know how it works or if this will do any good but it can't hurt I guess...Does any one know when these time limits must be set...Also I believe still no Republicans have co-sponsored H.R 589(I could be mistaken sorry if I am)But if they have not pressure needs to be put on the republican reps..We should find the one that has the highest U.E Rate in his district and flood there e-mail fax phone and twitter accounts....Make sure you keep calling :19101:e-mailing :654321:faxing and sending tweets to every politician you can think of....
