venting lightly in Philadelphia
sorry for the absence. i have had no luck with finding a job. no big surprise, right?
but i have found a hand full of my friends who understand what i'm talking about. being jobless is not a vacation.
sadly i still have a few close friends who just treat it like a joke. or shrug it of due to the economy. if i had 20.00 for every time i hear that...
i am really biting my tongue not to snap back at the lame jokes that are tossed about. in the same breath there has been support. there are thousands of us here in the city without work. in every city & town in the States. but we all are painfully aware of this.
the few job interviews i have lucked into sounded promising. but then was told either call back in a few months. or the famous, we'll get back to you.
WHERE ARE THE JOBS?...i saw that by DesperateinRI. had to make us of that.
i honestly dont even write anymore because i feel like i'm a downer. had a close family member tell me she could see right through me. great.
off to hang out with my daughter. thanks for reading my rant for this overcast day. i hope and pray for each and everyone. and that some change comes soon.
and here comes the rain again...grrr.

I'm in the greater Philly area too and still finding it HARD to find a full time job. All you see if PT and Contract positions.
Re: venting lightly in Philadelphia
unemployedandroid and Miss Displaced, spent 56 years here in the Phila Area. It is well documented that Philadelphia was very badly hit and yes the jobs are p/t, contract or my favorite, commission with the potential for first year earnings of 60-75k. Sure. After 34 years of full time, uninterrupted employment, I am not working full time for someone in the hopes that I may be able to live on commission, which is generally paid monthly, but almost always, the month after.
We are not alone, and friends who can see right through you are not friends and for their sakes, I hope never find themselves in this position, because as I find, they are the very people who fold like cards when they find their backs to the wall, as ours are.
Spend time with your daughter and if you don't mind some advice, contact Bob Brady's office. He has been helpful and very supportive. He is a co-sponsor of HR589 and has contacts and ideas, but he won't be condescending and will keep you advised.

advice taken Mary Kay. everyone says they have the greatest kid. well she is counted among those awesome kids. she has been very supportive and ultra encouraging. she has never really asked for much in her life. with her attending prom this week. graduation next month and college in the fall, i am driven to find something. i'm still walking the streets, applying online. and looking out side the city limits.
but like you both mentioned, part time, contractual, commissioned, interning. one place even wanted to just try my skills for a week. things have drastically changed.
as far as those fickle friends and family with nasty comments? they cant consume any of my time. when they are walking in our places, then they will know. your right.
employers have come up with crafty ways to NOT hire full time qualified people anymore. and now some listings are veiling full time as part time. you have to really double check.
i will check they resources you posted MK. keep your head up Miss Displaced. you both have my continued mental support.
