Why 14 weeks
How did Rep. Lee come up with 14 weeks/ 3.5 months? While I am grateful for 1 extra, this is not about being grateful it is about survival. Will I have a better chance of a good job in 14 weeks/3.5 months? Stabenwhereisshenow wanted 20 weeks why?
Should the duration of extensions represent the unemployment rate?
Should unemployment become the new welfare?
Should unemployment be paid for by the top 2% who cause the whole mess?
Should we stop the "tier" system and just give UI to everybody until the UI rate is 6.0?
Should the unemployed start from square one when the double dip recession starts?
I say yes to all of the above.
Look, a lot of 99ers have exhaused all their savings and credit and have now become a burden on those that love them. Or are out and going out on the street. At least a lot of homeless 99ers are not addicted to drugs or alchol, so they help each other in "Obomavilles"
This is no longer a dog eat dog world. Because even when you got eaten there was always another dog to eat. Now it is a big brother eat dog world.
We need to boycott China and tax the heck out business who out source there.
So spread the word BOYCOT CHINA AND ALL THINGS CHINA (except General Tso's chicken, it's too good)

Re: Why 14 weeks
I think the answer to that question is purely based on how much money they think they could get away with offsetting.
Why was TierIV 6 weeks? We will never know the real reasons. Also why the arbitrary cut off percentages for certain Tiers and EB?
its all Fuzzy Math IMHO.

Re: Why 14 weeks
Yeah, I am sure she picked 14 weeks because it was the maximum she could spend and hope to pay for it.
The tier system was a mistake. I am sure they had to put some limits on it so that it could get passed but it should have been based on the unemployment rate. As the people of NC are now finding out, due to the governments fuzzy math you can now lose your extended benefits even if your unemployment rate is almost 10%.
The truth is that I don't think the democrats thought they would lose their super majority due to Ted Kennedy's death. I honestly believe that if they had kept that seat they would have also kept the house in the last election and none of this would have been an issue. I know I will get a lot of heat from that but to if you are really honest with yourselves you will realize that Stabenow's tier 5 bill would have passed last fall had it not been for a single republican fillibustering. That's the truth. The democrats didn't think they would have to worry about be able to pass legislation in future so they didn't prepare for it.

Re: Why 14 weeks
lendme -- I have not posted in a while since I'm still on the temp assignment through April. I thought I'd check in given the recent decline in jobless numbers. In response to your comment, I think this country has gone to hell. Many of us (those older and w/o college degrees) will not likely hold permanent jobs again. The economy is a disaster -- purchasing power for the average Jack N Jill continues to shrink. But large corporations are raking in profits. There is much propaganda about the economy is improving. If the Republicans succeed with their proposed impending cuts we are definitely doomed (if not us our children for sure). Obama is a failure as President and not a leader nor can he successfully negotiate with the other party. Both the Dems (and Reps) could care less about the long term UE. Stabenow was not prepared nor did she surround herself with the right influential people to get Tier 5 passed. It will be at least 10 years before things start to shake out and shape up in this country if that even happens.

Carlch, I guess you came by just to tell me how much you hate Obama. Again. But I can't really disagree. I wouldn't say that Obama is a failure but he has definitely let me down.
