First topic message reminder :

This is an actual report, and it a separate topic than the political topic in the "Politics" forum.

I've heard back from one of the members on my website who lives in Tokyo, Japan and he's reporting that Tokyo is doing fine. They didn't suffer any real damage. Apparently, the real damage from the Earthquake took place in Sendai. The deaths were a result of the tsunami that hit Japan as a result of the Earthquake and that the deaths were not caused by the Earthquake itself.

Do NOT post about the unemployment issue in this topic. There already exists a topic for that issue in the Politics forum.

Please only post your condolences, support and prayers for the Japanese people.

UPDATE: Rather than continuously updating the topic title, it has edited one last time to reflect everything involving the earthquake and tsunami.

Either Godzilla or have Gamera sweep in and save the human race once again. He is "Guardian of the Universe" after all. Where's Green Lantern or Superman when you really need them. Very Happy

In the area of the San Onofre nuclear power plant, on the coast about halfway between L.A. and San Diego, there are no big faults off shore but there are some a ways inland. Another danger to such plants, as was pointed out by a local news crew, is attack by aircraft. A local news reporter practically buzzed the plant in his private plane, with no attempt to stop him at all, while reporting on the susceptibility of the plant to being crashed into by an aircraft.

TomW, I'm glad you were able to get word from your family and that they are ok. That had to be horrifying to go through.

Thanks, aloneinpa. The funny thing is, I didn't even know that they were living in Sendai until I received his email. They had been living in Tokyo, and when they visited here in L.A. last month they didn't mention anything about moving and I didn't ask.

@ Reuters : FLASH - French embassy in Tokyo says weak radioactive contamination could reach Tokyo in 10 hrs from stricken nuclear plant

This is looking grim now. Just found up to the minute updates from Reuters on HuffPo. Not good.

This is serious stuff. Just as I was expecting, the Govt wouldn't report on it correctly.

You get your best news on these things from other countries out of harms way.

3 reactors under possible meltdown and everything is safe.. LOL>

Japan's PM says 4th reactor of Fukushima NPP on fire

http://en.rian.ru/world/20110315/163008312.html

This link has more details-
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/2011/03/14/2011-03-14_third_explosion_at_japanese_nuclear_plant_sparks_fear_of_more_radiation_release_.html

Quoted from article; A third reactor exploded late Monday at the Japanese nuclear plant crippled by Friday's earthquake, releasing a dangerous amount of radiation, officials said.

A fourth reactor was on fire and there were fears that the steel containment vessel protecting the plant's nuclear core had been breached - the worst-case scenario in such situations.

"There is a very high risk of further radioactive leaks," Prime Minster Naoto Kan said in an address to the nation."I ask you to stay calm."

More bad news. According to a recent article, Japan's stock market future's plunged 14% before automatic triggers shut down all trading. This coming after news that Japan's PM announced that radiation was leaking from one of the four reactors and other news that there have been four explosions at that power plant.

This coming after news that Monday's stock had only dropped 7% but that construction was reporting as being up.

Whether or not you like him, I posted that because even journalists are leaving the area now. Just happened to pick that up on Twitter.

Well, I just thought it was poor judgment for Anderson to be in an area that he knows is a dangerous situation and yet he places himself in harms way?

I've heard about going after your story but when you become the story ... it's just reckless behavior.

UPDATE: This topic has been updated with a universal topic title to cover all of the news regarding the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami. Please report all news regarding this event in this topic.

Great News!!! Great News!!!

Two Michigan residents, who found themselves in the center of the Japanese earthquake/tsunami disaster have been found:

Paul Fales, a 2010 Eastern Michigan University graduate and son of an Ann Arbor attorney, has been found alive and well four days after he went missing in the wake of the tsunami that struck Japan.

http://www.annarbor.com/news/paul-fales-found-alive-in-japan-reunited-in-phone-call-with-parents-on-cnn/

Greg Zietlow, a Laketon Township native, was preparing for the students who attend his after-school English immersion program to arrive Friday when the earthquake hit. His mother, Carolyn Zietlow, reported he took cover under a desk while the walls swayed, but the building was largely undamaged. (A Reeths-Puffer High School graduate living near the area of Japan worst-hit by Friday's earthquake and tsunami reported he was safe, but an area “the size of Grand Haven” had been stripped bare by the wave.)

Japan radioactivity could enter food chain, kids at risk. Radioactive materials spewed into the air by Japan's earthquake-crippled nuclear plant may contaminate food and water resources, with children and unborn babies most at risk of possibly developing cancer.

It's just The situation in Japan just keeps worse. Last night, 140,000 Japanese were told to stay in their homes because of the threat of the radiation coming from the nuclear reactors.

After yesterdays loss of 52 points and todays accumulated loss of 215 points (so far), it's about to get worse. They're now saying that the world's supply of automobile supply could be severely affected by this and with production of automobiles said to be delayed until, at least, April, it could get much worse.

Did you know that there was an earthquake off the coast of Japan on December 21, 2010? Was this a warning of things to come?

It seems that the "ring of fire" is more active lately. Almost all of the places you listed are part of the "ring of fire". I don't know what the "big picture" is or if people can do anything about it.
