Investors' Greatest Worries: Federal Deficit and Unemployment

Post by Guest on Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:13 am

When asked to evaluate the impact of 15 factors on the U.S. investment climate, investors are most likely to say the federal budget deficit (71%) and unemployment (71%) are "hurting it a lot." These are followed by energy prices (60%) and the financial condition of state and local governments (58%).

It's interesting to note who these investors are:

"In the Feb. 1-8 survey, investors -- defined as those having $10,000 or more of investable assets -- represent the top third of Americans in terms of investable assets and include many retirees."

Seems to me, the unemployment rate should be the #1 concern. Without taxable income it becomes a near impossible task to lower the deficit in any meaningful way. So what came first, the chicken or the egg?
And yes I do know there are many ways to lower the deficit. I'm just talking about the investor standpoint here.

"U.S. investors are most worried about two items that are also high on President Obama's agenda: Budget deficits and unemployment."
