My temp job has come to an end after 6 months...between that time I was committed to the tedious online job searching...sill nothing.  I have managed to pick up a part time job when I was working my temp job which eventually gave me barely any hours.  I guess seeing them bring in someone for me to train when I was never considered for the position does make me bitter.  And the temp service told me it was a temp to perm job.. Just feeling overwhelmed and sad today Neutral..Wondering when my time will come..

Yes, I've been thru that process also.  It makes you wonder why so much turnover for that certain position.

In this bad economy, companies have been questioning things we've taken for granted for years, like:

1. Who says we should be paying our workers a "living wage"? What is a living wage anyway?

2. Where does it say that a work week should be only 5 days per week? Only 35-40 hours per week?

3. Why is it that we must provide healthcare to our workers, and pay for most of their premiums on top of that?

With so many people out of week, most companies feel they can do whatever they want and pay as little as they want. Like so many other things in this country, the job market is broken and out of control!

of course most of these "taken for granted things" were fought a died for through
Union workers coming together...

only one hundred years ago the unions were against 12 hour days six day work weeks

health care provided by companies came about as an added incentive in times of past worker shortages..(probably why the patch-work system is such a mess)

Who they don't mind paying are the CEOs with the multimillion dollar bonuses.

This country has flipped. With stock market doing well, jobs are not.  I heard in NY the ue rate dropped to 7.6% that means bye bye extensions for those who were collecting them and although it says there were 22k jobs created in the private sector, I don't know where or whom got those jobs.

We here on this board and others like it know the truth, but for some reason the word isn't getting out, or perhaps people just want to ignore the truth.

Those unemployment figures are fudged, and if any jobs were created, they were low-paying retail or fast-food jobs with crummy benefits.

I don't even care about benefits, just a decent job would suit me, I'd get my own benefits somehow.

My husband has worked a minimum wage Security Guard job for three years - no days off, no sick days, no vacation - nothing.  He was sick 2 days in 3 years and we ate it.  He asked for our 35th Anniversary off - with no pay, of course! - 6 weeks in advance.  They waited until 2 days before to tell him "no".  He says it's awful.  He has absolutely nothing to look forward to in his job - except the daily drudge.
His boss is a cop who believes he is the only one who should be respected for what he does and that he deserves all the benefits we pay for him, but that no one else deserves anything but him.  And he believes everyone else lies except for him - and of course he is the biggest liar of them all.  He cheats his clients, double bills them, bills for gas and time that aren't used or worked by the Security Guards, etc.  He's a Republican who hates unions.  Go figure...

i live in an area that once had a large contingent of steel and auto workers who mainly live in a few suburbs

out of the really poor area that i live in....of course most are republicans...they deserve the money they made it was THEIR work ethics NOT the union that got them a decent rate of pay..

no sense of history at all, they live in a fairy tale world

Where I live, minimum-wage service-industry jobs are the only area showing any real growth at all according to statistics I've seen. I suspect it's probably the same everywhere in the country.

Whether or not job creation numbers are accurate is sadly less important than the bigger issue: the rate of new jobs being created isn't keeping up with the rate of population growth in addition to filling in the tremendous hole of missing jobs caused by layoffs, downsizing, outsourcing and so on since 2008, including this year.

But for many people, it seems that they only look at the positive number of jobs created, the lower unemployment number, and then assume everything's fine.
