Dice lists IT job postings that are showing a surge
By Toni Bowers | October 23, 2012, 7:18 AM PDT

The highlights from the most recent report from Dice about job postings on their site:

“Software development is beyond compare in today’s job tech job market.” Even if you’re not an engineer - many hiring managers want candidates to have a thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle. More development equals more QA or ensuring a project, product or service meets certain standards and satisfies requirements.
The need for open source programming language skills that power a huge number of Web applications and technologies is evident in requests for Python and Ruby. Both have hit all-time highs in six of the 10 months in 2012.
Speaking of open source, JBoss is on the list with nearly 2,000 job postings on any given day, up 10 percent year/year.
Job postings for Android development job postings are up 33 percent from a year ago.
There is a continuing demand for information security professionals.
Microsoft nabs a couple of spots on the list, with MS Dynamics (1,581, up 10% year/year) and Windows 7. With Windows 8 just around the corner, it’s interesting that recruiting activity for the previous version is at an all-time high.
Requests for virtualization know-how scaled its all-time high too.

speaking for myself...not ALL of us have the aptitude to learn programing languages....
i have to know a few scripts and such (real simple stuff)...

back when i did learn a little programing. i was just able to write something using a sledgehammer approach...my stuff was not elegant nor pretty....

Duct Tape is also my favorite tool.....

ALL the contracts i have had recently have been for financial institutions.....since i have one now i would have to agree that IT work seems more available...

By the way i have run into many former developer/programmer types who now work sales within the same company....would this be evidence of burnout??

or do they simply have a better grasp of the product they sell???

just wondering

Sir, I post articles that hopefully will inspire just one person to rise from their problem. If you can't comprehend programming or the skills that you previously have said you've contracted for, then I'd appreciate not having each of my posts having a post mortem commentary by you.

If this doesn't apply to you then skip it. If I were to criticize I'd start by suggesting capitalized sentences, periods at the end, and such English nonsense.

I'd particularly appreciate knowing what you mean when you suggest "duct tape is your favorite tool".

I'm NOT just wondering. I'm really going to find out!

Did you mean this??? What do you mean, "just wondering"? I can't read rambling. I don't intend to be mean but you've upset me.

I have not contracted for a "software" jobs...only simple hardware roll outs...

1) financial firms seem to be getting a lot of new hardware..
(i don't care for the financial industry as a whole, and its ironic that they are giving me jobs)...
2) duct tape is a reference to fixing things in a hurry, or haphazardly...

i think it takes time to learn the art of programing... and a certain mindset that i don't have....that's all

i usually post on topics that have sat for a while without...even my own topics...no offense.....

the main point i was making was that i thought the entire IT field may be getting some work a little at a time...

developers have told me they were burnout from it after 10 years or so and moved to another type job....that's all

I also mumble from time to time but there is no audio on the forum...

maybe i am getting a little feeble in my declining years..
