This forum seems dead
hello!!
Well, back on the underemployed line. After 3 months of overemployment, I'm back where I don't want to be. Hate this.....contract/temp working then laid off again. Barely get back to equilibrium in finances before getting shoved back to struggling and worrying about whether I will have enough funds to keep a roof over my head.
Anybody else out there? This forum seems dead, where at one time it was busy.

Re: This forum seems dead
Hi 503! Glad to hear from you but sorry you are put in this position again.
It is pretty dead today, some days are better than others. I am hoping members are re employed and that's why they haven't been here. I'm sure the recent cuts in benefits have discouraged some, and some most likely don't have Internet. I am just guessing though...
I miss seeing people post and although it's dead we just keep on lingering on! There are not a heck of a lot of unemployment support forums anymore.
I hope you find the job you are looking for, or at least one that pays a livable wage soon!

Wow! That is good for a temp, Sorry it had to end
There will be something else for you, no doubt. Now you have something new for your resume. We know how employers hate to see gaps.

I am in the same boat....just a few weeks short of enough employment to get UI benefits...because some work was 1099...I applied anyway with 20 pages of documentation and am on third appeal (i actually got, then that was overturned)....
I THINK i have another contract lined up but as you say, that offers only a bit of a reprive (however i would get UI after this next job...maybe)
I am ALMOST resolved to this being the new reality for the rest of my "working" life...

Re: This forum seems dead
I have an open UI claim, since between my part-time job and completing a 10 month contract, I was able to obtain more. However, the part-time job is a double-edged sword, since my UI gets docked for working, even though I get medical/dental via the part-time job. (I hate the job, though)

Re: This forum seems dead
Well, welcome anyway! A dead unemployment forum is definitely not a bad thing these days, but I've been trying to get more unemployed/underemployed people into this community for support. People need to know they haven't been forgotten about, because it definitely seems that way in the media and a lot of people you talk to.
That is great that you got a job that paid so much, especially for temp work! Not even my Father is making that much right now!
I was literally having the Temp discussion with someone yesterday. He does auditing of government agencies, and he sees waste everywhere, but he could not understand how businesses these days prefer temp workers. He said, in most cases, they are actually losing money by paying the recruiting agencies instead of offering someone something permanent themselves. It needs to stop! Our country cannot become a nation of constant job changes!

temp/contract workers = Not having to pay benefits, holiday pay and helps to keep turnover of older workers high. Meanwhile, the political landscape wants everyone over 40 to die off (ala Logan's Run). This country does not want to take care of either the elderly or disabled, let alone those worthless unemployed people. If I had the money and the contacts, I'd move out of this country.

Could be bookkeeping as well....If recruiters fees come out of different funds during different quarters....
I have done service calls on middle-management types who spent the ENTIRE time on the phone with other similar types explaining how to transfer cost from this to that so the books look good....
That's about $100,000.00 a year to shift numbers on paperwork....no useful purpose or productivity, just smoke and mirrors

I'm here! I just lost my job and have a heck of a lot of debts to pay off. Regarding "anyone here?", I posted in quite a few topics last night but I'm now embarrassed as it looks like I'm dominating the "airwaves". Sorry about that.
I believe in pulling myself out of bed and getting going. I understand how being unemployed for a very long time would have a severe effect mentally and otherwise. I wish everyone well in this category. It's rough.

Sick and tired - don't worry, you'll get the hang of it
Because I am a media artist, I have an iPad, iMac, iPhone, and MacBook. Great devices for what I do. Might have to sell a few though if I don't fall into a job soon
Guess I'm cursed with my name starting with Mac! lol
MarilynL - I only know the funeral home in Danvers. Are you from there?
I guess this is one business that won't be going out of style soon!!

No, I am actually from Leominster, MA....but we do have a funeral home run by Kevin Mackey, and I do know that he has another funeral home in another location in Massachusetts, just didn't know where. Kevin owns a funeral here called "Simards Funeral Home", and they had to stick to the name since it was part of the selling of the business...and of course, because Simards was very well known in the area for years. But Kevin Mackey actually owns it, and he has another one somewhere else in Ma.

Re: This forum seems dead
The one I know is called Mackey Funeral Home and is on Conant Street in Danvers. Not sure about the Leominster one. I lived off Lindall Street, very close by.
Thanks!

I love it but it's been hard to get use to. The spell check and replacement words they use are funny sometimes but not when you are trying to be serious lol. It seems to happen at the worst possible time too. I'm still not aware of all of its capabilities. Now that my husband is back to work, he and my kids want me to get an iPhone for my bday in a few weeks. I don't know if I want it though, still trying to decide. even though we can afford it now i don't know if I can bring myself to pay that much for a phone.

I know. On the iPad or iPhone when it starts to "suggest" something, just "x" tap the suggestion and you're free to type away... until the next "suggestion"!
Or turn off the suggestion option
