And here is a tweet I received yesterday from Rep Barb Lee:

Rep. Barbara Lee‏@RepBarbaraLee

Republicans in Congress must stop standing in the way of moving our economy forward. We must create more jobs and extend benefits 4 #99ers.

We've heard it before, but we have nothing to lose.

Both parties need to be representative of the needs of the many over the needs of the few. I doubt Romney really needs to pad his offshore bank accounts any more than he already has. Since you can't take all that wealth with you, and your kids don't ever need that much, or anyone for that matter. Massive wealth just buys you membership in Satan's billionaires Boys club...my opinion on the wealthy of this nation...

OMG...my sentiments exactly. I don't begrudge the rich, but in this fairl land I would rather see people helping people...there's something wrong with those who have no problem storing millions away, as they watch others struggling and being homeless. I just want to be a fly on the wall when they meet their maker, and I pray that he has a few choice words for them. How can they live with themselves in this economy?

No disrespect intended but even I know not to hang any promise on what Barbara Lee has without success promised oodles of nonsense to the long term unemployed.

Just old politics.

I certainly dig what you are saying! I think the most important pivot point for our country to either accelerate upwards or plummet is the upcoming election. Sorry to any republicans out there, but the republicans have NOT been team players during the last four years and have hurt so many American citizens as a result.

President Obama and democrat majority in the house and senate - THAT IS MY WISH!

Mine too macky!

I honestly feel bad for republican citizens. Lord knows both sides have been let down, but republicans most of all. They have abandoned average Americans as well as the poor and elderly. I have some republican friends who agree. Sadly though, they will not vote dem because they are loyal and hope that the GOP congress will snap out of it...at this point though, I seriously doubt anything will change their ideals. It's only going to get worse.

They are betting against the American people and they are hoping people won't "fact check" them. If they took the time to they would realize how awful the GOP really are. They have let greed And power corrupt most of their party.

(As an admin I try to stay away from commenting as I just did but I couldn't help myself today!! Embarassed )

okay, so, what about those that are more like 99 plus 99 plus 50 weeks. . . I mean right now I think it is only 77 weeks of unemployment. If people keep on signing this that means people COULD BE on unemployment for the rest of their lives! Who wants to be on unemployment for the rest of their lives?

What we need is JOBS JOBS JOBS JOBS. Not just in big cities. Not just retail jobs. Not just receptionist jobs. We need jobs in all cities in all towns, all kinds of jobs for the older for the younger, for the educated MBA and for the high school grad. I think we should make it illegal for anyone to earn over $250K a year. Why do people need to be paid over $250K a year? What will they do with it? Put it in some stock? Yes, they probably will. But their kids don't need to be handed a check of $500K when they are 21. Their kids need to WORK like the rest of us.

No. The rich people can be paid more around $70K a year. That's right. I said pay them all $70K a year and with the funds that are left over - give it to employers to MAKE JOBS and save some for the unemployed. How many CEO's do we have on this earth earning $600K a year? They don't need it. They don't need 4 boats and 3 homes. 1 home to live in and 1 home for vacation is more than enough.

People (the rich) are living so far from reality, it makes me sick. Make it illegal for people to earn over $250K a year and fund 50% of the rest of the cash into unemployment and fund the other 50% to create jobs.

That is $180,000 that can go toward other things. 50% (60K per person earning $250K a year) could go toward making jobs. And the other 50% (60K) can go toward unemployment. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. What about those earning $600K a year or $1,000,000 a year? You can at least create 3 JOBS with that $60K - 3 people someone $20K a year. People say that $20K is not enough I'd rather be earning $20K a year than $11K a year on unemployment! And my mom IS on unemployment and she IS getting $11K from that. She was earning $20K a year from her JOB and she was making it on $20K a year. If my mom can do it on $20K a year, I'm sure the CEOs of this world can certainly make it on $70K a year. Learn to live with less folks. It's not hard.

I've been saying that for years, even before the economy went bad!
What does a person need with more than a 150K a year...I won't go as low as 70K...lol....I'll allow those executives who make the big corporate decisions, enough to buy a second home in the caribeans, and that boat to cruise around with, but I see no purpose in owning a home with 12 rooms. First all, it is their spending that raises the costs of everything, and we all know they purchase all these toys, and a 12 room house, so Uncle Sam doesn't rake them over the coal at the end of the year..they have to spend their money somehow, because Uncle Sam will take it away, anyway. So I guess I have to put myself in their place, and imagine making that much money...would I want to spend it before Uncle Sam takes it, you bet I would.

However, If I could determine how Sammy boy was was going to spend that money then that would be whole different story! If I could distribute my money to the middle class poor - to allow them to all have a home, if I could distribute my money to educate young adults thru college( so they didn't have to pay for college loans the rest of their lives; if I could distribute my money to those who in the US who are starving; if I could distribute my money to those organizations that actually do the research to cure some illness (not the police association, or save a tree association), then I would certainly forfeit my money. Therefore, what I am really against is the rich people hoarding it all, and not helping a neighbor who lives on the other side of the tracks! They don't have to give it to Uncle Sam, they can develop their own chariety organization, called "helping everyone", and put it where they want to put it.

And I am all for corporations who run businesses, and have a profitable year, to return some of the profits back to those who helped these businesses grow in the fist place. Because, right now, we are only a number to these people...we are only their slaves that do the work that is needed so they can profit from it.

No, don't let the CEO earn $150K a year or $500K a year. Let him or her earn $70K a year. Why? So they can see what it is like to live on LESS like the rest of us. And for all those people in Congress than I know earn at least $200K a year (not some receptionist) but congressmen. . .cut their wages down to $40K a year Why? They don't know what it is like to represent their own people if they are making (I mean stealing) a $200K a year or more. Like Warren Buffet said "he does need any mor tax breaks, he has a 17% tax bracket, and his secretary is in the 35% tax bracket and HE earns 10times as much as she does. I say, let's all just become socliaist and let's all pay 50% of our income over - everyone. So the man that gets 1mil each year - fork it over 500G's over to the government. TO the man that is making $80k a year - fork it over 40G's. That way, the money can be shared to the poor. The rich will NEVER pay their "Fair share" as Obama wants, since this country is not socialist like Europe. We still tax the rich less than the working poor. The working poor should be taxed (income tax) at only 6% while the rich should be taxed at 66% of their total income. And there should be a cap on how much the rich could "BUY". They should have a requirement that mandates them to GIVE 35% of their CASH INCOME (not stocks, unless it is converted to cash) to the poor. And I don't mean writing some check to Goodwill. No. It will NEVER get to the people that NEED IT, it will go to administrative costs if you do it that way! The rich need to drive down to poor cities like Perris, CA and need to see who is living on the street and give the people some cold hard cash - about $500 to each person.

As long as we keep on donating to places by writing a check, the money will NOT get to the people it needs to get to and it will go directly to overhead or to admin costs or someon'e salary will be raised. The money needs to get to people. Look up Faithful Servants on Facebook (lake Elsinore). She does it and the clothes (free) go right to the people, not to Goodwill and not to Salvation Army where people have to have MONEY to purchase clothes. The money needs to go from hand to hand, not from bank account to bank account. This country is mest up

Who cares how much they make? Just quit hoarding the money and making one employee do the work of 5 because you can get away with it?

Make the rich pay their fair share in taxes, simple economics and basic common sense. What you guys are talking about sounds like Communism!

Nah, I don't think my ideas are quite as bad as Sandra....sorry, Sandra...I will give the credit due to those people who got the education or had the initiative to start their own companies, because without them, none of us would have jobs. I believe they deserve to make more money than us, if it took their blood and sweat to create their businesses. But I think greed has certainly taken over the country, and these people have no problem taking as much as they can.

You say they should stop hoarding their money? Well we're all in agreement there. But how do you stop them from hoarding it...to pay more taxes...okay...but we all know that their tax money is still not going to go where it should be going. Remember, politics is all talk...will that money go to the appropriate areas that will provide jobs? Again, If I was rich, and the people didn't want me to hoard my money, I would have no problem sharing my wealth, as long as I had a say on where it was going.

Finally, all I want to see in this country is a little bit of compassion four our brothers and sisters, helping our neighbors ...I doubt that's communism! It's what you call having a "concience"

And doesn't "Communism" require that all means of production be controlled by the state. In other words, no one can own his or her own business or produce his or her own goods because the state owns everything.

I don't think I mentioned that anywhere in my statements...and I don't think that business owners should be lowered financially to a level playing field. Certainly, they deserve more! But there is a point when greed comes into the game, and that's what I am against. Because it's never enough for most of these people...because while these people are finding loop holes to make even more money, they are hurting others around them...and there has to be a concience to that...somewhere!

probably nobody would work stupider for a 5 million dollar salary cap...

Money at the top has not the same meaning as for the rest of us....

it is simply a means to measure power...once you have enough for all you and your family's security..the money is simply a point total...

we people at the bottom think in terms of not laying awake at nights worrying about the rent.....not purchasing a 150 ft boat to out-do the guy with the small 100ft boat.....BIG difference

Its my understanding that CEO's in Japan and European country's practice a more "humanitarian" form of Capitalism....but then that's those DARN socially aware countrys

That is nice, I have an MBA and I started "a company" You know what I was doing? Freaking stupid tutoring. I HATE tutoring. I HATE IT. But what else can I do as far as starting my own company? I don't have a trade, like knowing CODE to write some kind of new space age visual basic gui thing. I can't do that. I tried and it is hard to write code. I'm not a CPA, and I don't do accounting, so I can't start my own accounting business. I have never been a manager at any job. So what skills do I have to start a real business? Well, I can tutor, the most yuckiest job that I hate. I am being forced to do what I hate to do, but it give me some freaking money. Did I mention that I HAVE an MBA? I guess mine does not count

I don't hate rich people, I don't expect them to "give" me anything. The only thing I hate is that they have so much control over what happens to us "little people". I do hate the rich who have profitted off of screwing us over time and time again.

They have too much power over our fate, that is what bothers me the most!!! It's always been a factor in politics but now it has spun way, way, way out of control! They pay less taxes than me and my husband because they have corrupt politicians in their pockets and that isn't right. They line the pockets of politicians to get what they want.

Being rich is fabulous, until it turns into dirty rotten greed.

(too much) Money is the root of all evil....

Yes, you have mentioned it several times. Many of us here have college degrees and post-grad degrees, but it all depends on what your concentration is. Many jobs are gone and not coming back. You need further training to keep up with the advancements in technology no matter what field you are in. Some states provide tuition waivers and specialized training for the unemployed. This spring the federal government allocated additional funding for states for reemployment services, including training for the unemployed. People need to be aware of this and take advantage of this before the funding runs out at the end of the year. Did I mention I have a MSW and LCSW? I've been out of work for four and a half years, jobs in my profession were the first ones cut. I now know that I have to leave my comfort zone and try something new if I ever want to work again. Did I mention I'm 56 years old? Don't give up and for your own sake, stay positive.

without going into terrible detail....

1929 stock crash....first time middle class "little people" get involved in market...market is manipulated process inflated big-money scrapes off the middle-class "wealth".....

Latest Crash....Home prices sent through-the-roof (middle-class) are left holding the bag...

Designing financial market manipulating rules, adds nothing to anything....
it simply makes it advantageous to those who design them...

real WEALTH is the ability to create new material things, or use them more effectively nobody is 100 or 1,000 time better at that than anybody else and deserves such ginormous pay scales....

We will not even mention the whole house of cards "fractional reserve system" which may already be at its limits because without cheap power unlimited growth is not possible....our money system RELIES on unlimited growth...(a real problem)

Who defines what pay scales are???? the Free Market??? the fed SETS interest rates
in an effort to CONTROL this free market...

Sandra5yrs,

If it's any consolation I obtained my DCompSc PhD in applied computer science 3 years ago and just lost my job last week.

From what you've provided I would suggest focusing on mobile app development, particularly with the new Apple iOS 6 about to be unleashed - big opportunities there!

I just signed it, so I guess we're one signature to 3000, at which time it will be submitted and great deeds are sure to be done.

I left the following comment.

A few points:
1. HR589 is DEAD DEAD DEAD... and is a flash in the pan for what is really needed.
2. Why on earth do we need to PETITION our own government for the obvious obscenities that congress and senate continue to dish out by way of ignoring us?

We all feel that we shouldn't need a petition to get help, on that we all agree. It's just right now, we have nothing to lose and possibly something to gain if the required 3000 signatures get the petition to those who can do something about it. It's disgusting, we agree on that as well.

Hi MaryKay,

Please don't think I meant to be demeaning to your good efforts here. I'm just furious about the fact that the government has not bridged the gap for so many of you that have lost so much.

There's just such an imbalance of wealth here. Although this is a country of choice and not socialist in nature, it is indeed a country that must stand UNITED when dealt such a blow.

I just lost a job and I'm still young. You all have been at this for too long and will suffer into old age as a result!
