I've been "FMP" "RIFed" Laid off since the end of March, use the appropriate acronym that you are familiar with. I've had some bad interviews; but todays took the cake. I'm a Systems Engineer by training and experience, over 30 years. Today, I had an interview with a small reseller. Small as in 2.5 million yearly sales compared to companies that I've worked for in the past that were multi-national multi billion dollar companies. Anyways, I'm sitting in the "waiting room" and over hear this coming from what must have been the managing partners office, speaking to the operations manager that I'm interviewing with. They were going over the list of companies that I've worked for and I hear. "He'll want too much money. Give him 5 minutes and show him out." I actually got 45 minutes and actually hit it off with the interviewer. But I know I won't hear back from them. Why don't companies know, I'm not making anything close to what I made before? I just want something that will include health care insurance and something more than UI. I don't think I'm employable any longer and I'm only 53.

John, first let me welcome you to the forum. You have friends and family here. It's a place to share your feelings, highs and lows and just vent. We all understand, believe me.

We have all had these types of experiences. I am actually glad you had a face to face interview. Many of us haven't had that. Who knows, maybe since they gave you more than the 5 minutes, they took the time to get to know you. You just might hear something, I hope so. So many of our members are in the 50 and over club and we do feel as you do. I wish a I a magic word or something more positive to say, sadly, right now I don't. Just know you have a home here and we all have big shoulders.

Again, welcome.

John...how sad you had to hear this from the waiting room. I think I would've walked out, and been gone when they came and got me...HA! But you had the courage to go thru the interview anyway....you are stronger than me. I am sure we would all like to hear from you, on whether or not you got that job....

It's so sad when the employers SHOULD want those who have the education and experience... It's annoying and all too common these days... My new job pays $6 an hour less than my previous job did and does not offer health insurance--but yahoo I got a job... *sigh*

Good luck, John!!!

Wonderful, John! I am happy to hear that you are working, and yes, even though you had to take a huge cut. Actually the cuts certainly won't bother me, I got used to the cuts during my last 10 years of being employed. But that health insurance...ugh! Now you have to make a big decision...pay for your own, which costs as much as you probably are earning...or pay for the fine at the end of the year...for not having any insurance. For me, I'd opt to pay the fine...until those health care costs come down, I am not going to be forced to pay 100% for it. Good luck to you John!
