Though we are still struggling, I saw this on the news and though it might be helpful to some.

"All Walmart stores and Walmart Neighborhood Markets participate in the “Pay with Cash” program. This allows customers to order online at Walmart.com and pay for the items with cash. Now, customers can shop a broader selection of items online, hundreds of thousands more items beyond its stores. Walmart is the first major retailer to offer online purchases without the need for banking services or a credit, debit or prepaid card."

Thanks for posting this. I am a big Walmart Superstore fan for just about everything, their prices are just so much better than our local stores and markets, plus, the prescription program has been a God send for me.

I don't know why more stores don't take advantage of this idea. Who doesn't like cash? I suppose though, most establishments are reluctant to order non-stock items for fear they won't be picked up.

Thanks for posting this need a break, I know I am glad to know I can do this.

Thanks, MaryKay.

Since we are forced to live in this "new normal", we need to find ways to get things done with little or no cost.

I couldn't agree more. We've been careful to not use the charges unless it's an absolute life or death emergency. No cash, no shopping, it's the only way we can survive right now.

Thanks again.

Of course Wal-Mart would start the shop online and pay with cash program! It is another way for them to make money - no credit card fees! If Wal-Mart is so set on helping the working class families, they wouldn't have stopped their lay-a-way program. This helped a lot of families purchase clothes and household appliances without having to come up with the cash all at once. This was especially helpful around the back to school time of year.

Target, Stop & Shop, Giant and several other major retail grocery and retail chains also have the same prescription plan. K-Mart still has a lay-a-way plan.

Sorry for being so negative in this post, but I have seen first hand what Wal-Mart has done to many US businesses, especially in my area. I was a Human Resources / Payroll Manager for a distribution company that employed 300 - 400 people in Woonsocket, RI (not a very big "city") for many years. Out of the blue, Wal-Mart decided that they were not going to deal the middle-man anymore, they now have their items assembled, inspected (hahahaha) and shipped directly from the manufacturer in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, etc. Pulling their account burned the company I worked for and the plant closed. Another big loser in their game plan to cut out the middle man was Polaroid located a few miles away in MA.

The newest Wal-Mart Superstore will end up putting the local grocery stores, and Stop & Shops in the area out of business. In rural areas like mine, that is tough. There is no public transportation and with the cost of gas today, traveling 10 - 15 miles to save a few cents is not worth it. Stop & Shop (Giant in other areas of the country) has even lowered their prices to remain competitive. When these stores go out of business, there will be hundreds more people out of jobs here in a state that has not stopped bleeding jobs since the recession began.

I just don't feel that Wal-Mart is contributing anything to the US economy right now. All they are doing is lining their pockets with more $$$$$$!!!!!!

I know many people feel that way. But here in our area, it employs alot of people who lost jobs in 2008 and for more than 13 hrs a week, which has been great for many I know. There prices are great, which helps us alot. Our Kmarts do have layaway as well, however, if anything goes on sale in the 90 days (which happens all the time, you cannot return it for the sale price, nor according to their policies are you entitled to it at the lower price). Our Kmarts here in NJ are all but closed. We will retain 2 out of 8 in Gloucester County by the end of the year. Target is too expensive and they do not honor my prescriptions for the $4 price, one if $4 and the other is $54 for a 30 day supply. Walmart was willing to submit for me and get me the $4. I got a note from my endocronologist, they submitted to the mfg and got me the price for 2 years. No one offered that to me other than Walmart. Our supermarkets, Shoprite, Acme, Pathmark are all wonderful, but much more expensive. I also feel that most businesses are there to make money, so I go where I need to in order to keep the budget where it needs to be and won't apologize for it.

And Target, well they gave me three interviews for a stocking job, and when I was hired I was told that I would have a maximum of 15 hrs. My first two weeks netted me 8 hrs for week one and 12 hrs for week two. All in an effort to keep anyone from reaching the necessary 32 hrs to qualify for benefits. Their payroll is bulging with 12-15 hr a week employees and their turnover here is ridiculous, so at the moment, not my favorite store. Just another game of $$$ for Target. So I suppose they are all guilty.

I don't disagree with you, DesperateInRI. As we are seeing, we are being forced to live in ways to survive in this society. But this may be helpful so some. We need resources.

Unfortunately this the way companies are trying to run. I had a company that advertised for a part-time job that was 10-20 hrs per week that I could do either on-site or at home. Sounded good. I could try to find another part-time job to fill the rest of the week. Weeks later, I get a call from them asking whether I was still interested in interviewing with them. Here comes the shocker. This was only on the condition that for the job, I would have to be on-call 9am-5:45 pm. No guarantee to hours more than that 10-20 hrs per week. I didn't go there. They will probably still be able to find someone.

All the retail chains are like that, NAB. There are plenty of people to fill those very part-time, minimum wage jobs. When people start running out of benefits and have no money, those jobs will be gone too. Nobody will be buying anything.

Time to tell both parties to bring back jobs to the US, penalize the outsourcing and tax the rich the same way they tax the poor!

Sorry, not in a good mood this morning. The thought of loading my car with cans and bottles I collect from neighbors and local businesses to bring them to CT and cash them in for five cents a piece is giving me a headache today! The smell of stale beer on a hot, humid day at the recycle center is nauseating!

When Walmart starts closing it's doors, that will be the sign that countries like China are done with us - and equally we are done as a country.

This country needs to refashion it's business model and international trade situation before it implodes with American's falling out of hammocks and barbecues blowing to the way side.

We took "us" for granted too long and now all around the world we are a joke.
