U.S. manufacturing output has increased 13 percent over the past five years, according to the Wall Street Journal. But that increase in output has come on the backs of workers. Wages for manufacturing workers remain below 2009 levels and are actually closer to the level they were in 2000.

High unemployment and increased competition abroad has pushed U.S. employers to keep pay low, even as productivity rises, the Wall Street Journal reports. The U.S. currently has the highest percentage of workers in low-wage jobs.

Having worked in Manufacturing most of my career I see jobs now that used to pay 16-18pr hr only paying 10 to 12 dollars an hour. This is temporary work too with no benefits.

This is just a total discrace! I don't know what else to say. This is our Great Depression, just as bad as the one our parents and grandparents had to live through. But with dwindling resources, terrorists lurking, and countries that control our debt and vital supplies who want us dead, I don't know how we're going to pull out of this.

On the news this morning, Apple Computers said it may bring some jobs back to the US. But seeing how they treat their worker overseas and hardly pay anything, I wouldn't want that type of management structure back here.

It is also a disgrace to see people in the seventies and up having to work.

People and companies now have been conditioned that they are no longer their brother's keeper and we no longer have the leadership strong enough to take a stand to rally for the poor and middle class. Our leaders are now only in it for the donations, votes and media attention.

Another mind-blowing article related to low wages and other forces/politics that have set this all in motion. God Bless America!
