For college grads only. (Or if your are not one, you can answer anyway.)

Have anyone ever been in a situation, where you needed a job, but you are seen as "Overqualified," because you have a college degree? And if so, have you ever lied on an application, when you mention going to college, did you ever check "No" under "did you graduate?" Or for that matter, omit having gone to college in the first place, just so you can improve your chances of getting hired?

Do you think this is a good idea, if you are desperate for work?

No, I don't think that it's a good idea to lie, be desperate or to take a job based on fear. You will be miserable in the end. Meditate. Go for walks. Take deep breaths and believe in yourself. Manifest what you need for yourself and have faith that this will be provided.

It's not good to lie on your resume or job application - a background check will catch it. "Omission" would be a better option, however, keep in mind that even low paying clerical jobs are requiring a BA or BS for employment. I have several resumes I use depending on the type of job I am applying for. The resume I have posted on Snag-a-job.com, or when appling for a McJob, doesn't list my education at all. Resumes on CareerBuilder and similar job sites, I list the colleges and degrees.

Not that they pay ANYthing, but even Target appreciates college degrees...

at the time, my only logic is that if you put down you graduated cum laude from Harvard, obviously, employers will see if it's true. I you say you attended a state university but did NOT graduate, they are less likely to see if that's true.

Then again, I might be wrong.

Depending on the position I am applying for, not only do I omit my education, I also omit positons that paid significantly higher wages than what I am applying for, if I can omit them without leaving huge gaps between jobs.

Sometimes, people are very strange, and it irritates me when someone else decides that a position isn't right for me, or that I won't be satisfied with a position, based on my education and/or salary history. If I'm applying for the position, I've already decided that I want the position, even if it's not what I went to school for, and that the initial terms are acceptable.

Before I stopped putting my education on my resume, I used to keep official transcripts on hand, unopened, from the colleges I attended, to take with me to interviews, because I never knew when I would be asked to produce one right there at the interview. Guess I don't look "smart" enough to be a college grad.

In my experience, "dumbing down" has never been a detriment, and I believe doing so helped me to get some of the most enjoyable jobs I've had.

I list my education, but do not emphasize it. I have a "dumbed down" resume which lists my former employers and departments, but not necessarily titles (ex: "Marketing" rather than "Marketing Manager"). Also, I reword the descriptions to exclude references to any management duties.

Do it.

I could have a little house that is MINE for what college cost.

I loved college. It was one of the most fun and freeing times of my life, but did it help with a career? No... I'm not even working in what I majored in...

What hurts my resume, however, is that for the year before my last job (which lasted for four years) I jumped around a bit. I'm tempted to change the dates of one of my places employment. I have lots of good references and wouldn't change the dates of my last place of employment. I'd just leave out one and lengthen another so that it doesn't look like I job hopped which I did do...

Strange that once upon a time it was so easy to find a job that you could jump around if you were unhappy in your job placement... Not happy? Find another job-----no biggie... *sigh* Not now!

Just a quickie from me... let's say you leave off college. Then you get the job. Two years later you're up for promotion to a position which requires a college degree.

I know where I live in the SF Bay Area most everyone has at least a BA so if you don't have that, it doesn't look good...
