Yet our state continues to paint the unemployed as lazy, potential drug users who want nothing more than to game the system.

How can we be so lacking in compassion?

Have any of the people so harshly judging the unemployed ever been out of work for any length of time, sending out resume after resume, making phone calls, making cold calls on a potential employer, only to be turned down time and again with “Sorry, no work available”?

It is a demoralizing and depressing existence, one in which it is easy, after time, to get into why-bother mode, and, in some cases, develop debilitating depression that can manifest in physical ways.
