US Economy Gained About 150,000 Jobs In December, Surveys Show

The Labor Department releases the Jobs Report for December this coming Friday (1/6) at 8:30 a.m. Surveys carried out by the three major economic news agencies expect the report to show that approximately 150,000 jobs were created in the month.

However, the unemployment rate is expected to rise to 8.7%.

DJ US DATA WEEK AHEAD: Ring In The New Year With Jobs Data

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The first week of 2012 will bring the last monthly look at 2011 labor markets.

The December employment report, scheduled for release Jan. 6, is expected to show that hiring picked up at year's end. If so, the gain should give U.S. consumers more confidence and income to start the New Year.

The median forecast of economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires is that nonfarm payrolls increased by 155,000 this month.

Ignoring the strike-skewed September numbers, the job gain would be the best since April. The expectations are based on falling jobless claims and consumers' improved perception about job availability.

The unemployment rate, which stunned investors by falling to 8.6% in November from 9% in October, is projected to edge up to 8.7% for December.

This is the news that I found yesterday....Even if they do add new jobs they are no where they need to be to get people back to work, and no help for the Exhaustees or 99'ers in the meantime.

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 490,364 in the week ending December 24, an increase of 69,261 from the previous week. There were 525,710 initial claims in the comparable week in 2010.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.9 percent during the week ending December 17, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,597,548, a decrease of 30,448 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 3.3 percent and the volume was 4,116,684.


The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending December 10 was 7,231,514, an increase of 79,385 from the previous week.

Wow...Unexpectedly I hate to see what happens in Feb. when all these temp. seasonal jobs are over.

They are always trying to put a positive spin on it in anticipation that american citizens are naive and will actually believe it, without considering the facts. Those of us that live it everyday all know how it really is, though. Sad but true...

I know I keep repeating myself BUT We need to get The Restore the American Dream act passed, it creates 5 million jobs AND provides relief for 99ers!!

Yep and the UI claims keep increasing--wonder why that is when there are all of these so called new jobs?
