yes there is blame enough to go around.....the deregulation of the financial industry brought on all the excess money manouvering and as of yet has had nothing done to correct it......

as sad as it is to say....we will all go through this again....(this next time most probably well over a trillion dollars will get sucked out of the middle/lower economic class and be swallowed up by the banks....)

most of the things like food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc, etc...are just nickles and dimes in the big picture of the fractional reserve monetary system itself.....we as citizens are completely caught up in endless bickering between ourselves (dems and repubs) while the bankers make off with the house....

Here's the bottom line as I see it. Republicans namely George Bush jr ran the country into the ground. He took a surplus and turned it into a deficit. Two wars one based on weapons of mass destruction that never existed! His vp had connections to Haliburton which made millions on the wars! It was about making money. All wars are fought over money but the ones that make that money don't fight the wars. It's easy to send someone else's kids to battle.

Clinton started the jobs leaving with NAFTA at that time I don't believe they knew it would fu** us as it has. People like Mittens made out like bandits. It took a generation to drive us into the ground it will take 10-20 years to crawl out of this mess. It is not Obamas fault! This country would be in worse shape had he not bailed out the banks and auto industry! Had he not, add another 10-20 years!

I do wish Obama would have done more but I don't think he could. Republicans have blocked everything he tried. Both sides need to work together. Remember republicans saying, our #1 goal is to make Obama a one term President? That's their goal. Classiest thing I've seen a republican candidate say, Rick Perry "Adios Mofo" real classy for a presidential candidate! I had to look up the meaning to be sure it meant what it meant when I was in high school. Sure as heck it still does...

Btw who made all that banker deregulation? In fact that is one of the republican points! They want less regulation even now. Regulations keep the playing field fair for us all. Remove them and nobody plays by the rules cuz they don't have to!

deregulation of the banks caused greed. we see it in the money going out to bail out the banks. GREED. so who started the deregulation - Reagan - Sins of our grandfather who got a free house when he left office.

The real villain here is not the deregulation matter itself, but the government's failure to figure out a new oversight framework to deal with the deregulation. Government watchdogs like the SEC, FDIC, Office of Banks and Real Estate, among dozens of government agencies were now responsible for all sorts of new institutions. Clearly, the federal government did nothing in re organizing the oversight responsibilities even though they created a law that revolutionized the financial services industry. That, to me, is the biggest failing of the federal government in this manner. The regulatory agencies stayed stagnant while the financial market evolved overnight.

In fact, to me, the problem with this crisis was never one of a lack of regulations. There were already regulations in place that should have prevented the crisis. Most of the bad loans that created this crisis were done fraudulently. These so called stated loans had large numbers of FRAUDULENT income and asset disclosures. FRAUD is now, was then, and always was ILLEGAL. The regulation was there to deal with the problem, but the regulation wasn't enforced. The problem is that this fraud went on four years, en masse, and little or nothing was done about it. Even though this fraud fell under the jurisdiction of a plethora of new regulatory agencies, rather than having tougher enforcement, there was confusion and little action.
That's why it would be a mistake to try and create all sorts of new regulations in response to the crisis. What everyone should realize as a result is that this crisis resulted from a lack of enforcement not a lack of regulations themselves. If the banking deregulation act of 1999 is repealed, we will be attacking the wrong culprit. What we need is a re organization of the regulatory agencies to better oversee the new financial world.

Agreed and proper enforcement, it is appalling to think that I can sell $100.00 dollars’ worth of crack near a school and go to prison for the majority of my life while on the other side of the coin if I created CDO swaps that caused a worldwide financial meltdown, I get a bonus, promoted and my employer who helped me gets bailout.
That is where the fight should be, that is true inequality

Manditory sentencing was another of Regans wonderful ideas. I just watched a program about how NYC had a law that pot possesion was a crime when it was in the public eye. So NYC police randomly pulled African Americans out and made them empty their pockets, BAM pot was out in the open so they arrested them and prosecuted them. Drug related crime was through the roof for African Americans and nil for whites. Because they targeted them. Do they mean to say that whites do not smoke pot? Most of the white people I know smoke pot! Go to a cubs game and everyone around you in the bleachers is smoking pot!

Recently NYC has changed their policy concerning this issue. It should be decriminalized at min across the country. But whatever, I don't smoke pot so it doesn't effect me either way.

Yes I agree the laws are out of touch and out of wack to say the least. California has an interesting view. Decriminalized and taxed like a, as Rick Perry would say, a MOFO!
Very Happy
