The Answer to Occupy Wall Street Empty The Answer to Occupy Wall Street

Post by Guest Sat Nov 12, 2011 12:00 pm

They just want a job and a house. They want to live knowing their kids will be better off than they are. They want a country where they feel the people are both heard and included. And so they have taken to the streets, because they think the conventional method of navigating the system is an abysmal failure. We all know the story -- but what I want to know is the ending?

The occupy movements are starting to overstay their welcome. People complain that they are smelly, noisy, and displeasing to the eye. Gone is the "Oh, it's so great that you are protesting." The new wind has swept in the "when are you finally going to leave?" But as Ann Colman at Occupy Boston told me, "The idea is going to continue on even if the encampment doesn't."

I already admitted previously that I cannot win that bet as worded because I neglected to set a time limit on it. The occupation literally must end at some point, even if it ends with all the demands of the protesters met.

Now, in terms of the spirit of the bet, I have no idea what you are talking about. The movement is still going strong as far as I can tell. In fact, I could've sworn I read just this week about occupiers crashing all sorts of events put on by various politicians. Hardly sounds like a "dying" movement to me.

Feel free to post evidence to the contrary, but FYI a tristen opinion piece, or for that matter any individual opinion piece, is not evidence. "People are complaining" is also in no way evidence to the contrary. The people complaining aren't vital to the movements success because they obviously would never support the movement anyway.

EDIT: For that matter, look at what the article says they're complaining about: "Ewww you're gross, you smell, you're annoying, you're ugly, no one likes you go away!" Sounds like a 3rd grade bully if you ask me! Does the movement even want support from such shallow people?

This is only the beginning! What happened in Ohio on Tuesday is just a start on what will happen. We may not physically occupy an area, due to cold in the North and being forced out. Even George Washington hibernated in Winter.

We have the power of the internet to keep this movement very active. With a Laptops, WIFI and Cell phones the 99% can be anywhere! Just like we apply online for jobs. This group knows how to use technology.

George Washington would have loved to have any of this!

You don't have to physically occupy a space to get your point. However, it still helps, since the protests in Columbus, Ohio proved that demonstrating does have an effect.

Long strikes do have people remaining. It is not necessary to have large groups all the time. There are weekends where the groups in large numbers can reassemble. This is what mostly will happen and will continue. Will not end until the massive 99% can accept the changes. It could last until 2013 or later, if the election in 2012 does not solve anything.

It will be a long year ahead. Nobody will be retreating. This is our country and we will take it back against 1%. George would be proud!

Well put and after reviewing your post I have to say I would agree time will tell, hopefully they move forward in a positive manner and focus more on the UE (especially the long term UE) as opposed to global greed.
