Occupy Wall Street Global Movement News, Updates, and Your Thoughts

Post by Guest on Thu Oct 13, 2011 4:48 pm

First topic message reminder :

As we reported earlier, the city is coming in to clean Zuccotti Park tomorrow whether Occupy Wall Street likes it or not. (They don't). And now they're stepping up their response another notch: Ray Kelly told reporters that "People will have to remove all their belongings and leave the park." Not only that, they won't be allowed to bring back camping gear or even lie down, thus ending the sleeping part of the occupation. Things might get messy, since OWS shows no signs of giving in.

They've put out an "EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION: Prevent the forcible closure of Occupy Wall Street!" and are urging people to go to Zuccotti at 6 a.m. tomorrow for "non-violent eviction defense."

Thanks for the updates, DiR, lstjr, and S&T. Great pic, lstjr!

Getting cold, rainy, and terrible winds here tonight. Why does our side have such a bad sense of timing with seasons? Like Wisconsin* last winter, and why couldn't have this started in April?

*Oh, I know, it was azzhat Walker who chose the timing, but still.

Great article in the Huffington Post about this movement:

50 Million Will March
The aspiration to lift the 99 percent inspires men and women throughout America and across nations, oceans and continents. A cold, hard winter will bring a springtime of action that will mobilize tens of millions of people for the most historically profound movement of our times.

Agree, starting in April would have been better but better late than never and I don't see this being over anytime soon. We don't start averaging temps below freezing until January, I might move my trailer downtown then Laughing

This is a good article and it has ONE line that SHOULD be the paramount message in ALL this......."championing the rights of workers". This is what it's really about. Until WE have OUR rights as the LABORERS who keep the machine going, everything else is pointless.
Of course the POWER base capitalist ARE against the WORKERS to have a voice. They simple USE us all for THEIR profit and DISCARD us as THEY see fit. To me this IS NOT an equatable SYSTEM anymore because the FEW have NO NEED for as many workers because the VERY system of "CAPITAL GAINS" has given them the ability to USE money to MAKE money...without the NEED to MAKE product, Provide service etc, which REQUIRES people to be hired. Now their PROFIT is HIGHER than ever but they REQUIRE "LESS" people to do it. This is where we find ourselves today but unfortunately MANY still BELIEVE the propaganda of OLD business that created the middle class STILL WORKS. It does not, NOT anymore....it's been a rigged game and those who are buying their tripe are going to be in for a SAD awaking when THEY get kicked out the door, like so many of us that it's already happened to.

Well it looks like the sh!t is about to hit the fan, we got word late last night that anybody at the Occupy site would be ticketed after 5pm today, and if they didn't leave they would be arrested for trespassing. A couple things are odd about this one is that the law states you have to be out of the parks by 10pm. The other is we had already planed to be out by 5pm because our camp is set up at the same place Eugene's Saturday Market is. I guess our legal team has a meeting with the EPD 11am to try to figure out a solution or at least a compromise, if one can't be found I'll be heading down there shortly.

It's now looking like this was the city manager on a power trip, one thing I learned today is the mayor doesn't run the city the city manager does. So much for a representative government voted on by the people as the manager is hired by the city, also the mayor and city council have the power to fire the city manager. We started emailing the mayor, city council and the city manager late last night about our concerns and continued until we started to get replies back a little while ago, this is the reply.

Thank you for contacting the City of Eugene. Your message has been received by Mayor and City Council, has been recorded into the public record and will be provided to them for their review and consideration.
I am also including a bit of information about the current status of this issue:
The Occupy Eugene movement has been respectful and collaborative. The City of Eugene and its Police Department have been working with members of the group during the past week on issues or concerns as they come up and will continue to do so. Occupy Eugene has indicated to the City the group intends to leave the Park Blocks today so that the area can be cleaned and ready for the Saturday Market. Both the Occupy Eugene group and the City are interested in the Saturday Market being allowed to hold its event. The City is confident, based on the demonstrated respectfulness of the Occupy Eugene group, that this will occur cooperatively.
The City and police are fielding questions about a 'no tolerance' policy on the group moving to another area. It is important to understand that there is NOT a 'no tolerance' approach being applied. Should the group move to another site, the City and police will evaluate the location and work collaboratively with organizers regarding compliance issues or community concerns. It is expected this will be conducted with continuing cooperation and without confrontation.
Looks like the mayor and city council got the city manager to back off his “no tolerance” stand.

Pete Seeger and pals attend NYC protest action

Folk music legend Pete Seeger joined in the Occupy Wall Street protest Friday night, replacing his banjo with two canes as he marched with throngs of people in New York City's tony Upper West Side past banks and shiny department stores.

The 92-year-old Seeger, accompanied by musician-grandson Tao Rodriguez Seeger, composer David Amram, and bluesman Guy Davis, shouted out a verse as the crowd of about 1,000 people sang and chanted.

They marched peacefully over more than 30 blocks from Symphony Space, where the Seegers and other musicians performed, to Columbus Circle. Police watched from the sidelines.

It's seems to be a concentrated effort all over the country to tear down the OWS movement. Mayors all over are calling out their stormtroopers on UNARMED, peaceful US citizens. This is the TRUE United States a fascistic one. It starting all over again, just like the 50's and 60's movements. I say bring it on.

And so ends the movement, as I have said before when the protests become unfocused, unresponsive and more interested into trying to stay in the headlines then heading to police requests the movement and those associated with it are doomed.
It’s too bad, if they would have just stuck with the jobs issue instead of corporate greed, native American injustices and my favorite rant the demise of capitalism then the public would have been more on board then on the sidelines…now watch the public turn; good job Oakland you blew it.

Not enough regular people supporting it to make it a revolution and to the assclown in the picture guess what “Nobody is scared about making you angrier”
