25 percent food stamp benefit for August
Made a food stamp purchase yesterday. When I checked my balance it seemed a little high. Called the help line today and was told I was given a 1 time 25 percent benefit for August. Hey 50 bucks is 50 bucks! They said it was due to Irene, damage and food spoilage. I m in CT, check your balance did everyone get this??

Thats is great nutty, go get a big fat steak for the 1st place yankees game tonight. (I hope desperate reads this)
I don't get food stamps any more but fema declared my town a disaster area and I filed for help. Look into it you may be able to do the same. If you have damage, lost food or whatever you can get a check. I am claiming everything. I spent 70 bucks on gas for my genny. Have yard damage and my garage had some flooding.
I found the fema link through my local police department online link.

Going to call now! Thanks for the information! I had to throw everything out in the fridge and need to start over. This would be a great help!stillnutty wrote:bump RI did you see this? do you get it??

Just called. I have to go to Human Services and put a claim in for everything I lost, they didn't give it to us automatically.

Re: 25 percent food stamp benefit for August
During the tornadoes in St. Louis I lost power and lost most of my food as the power was out for over 2 days. I moved some stuff to a cooler. I left a message for my FS worker asking how to replace about $80 of spoilage in the freezer/fridge. The following month I had $80 more on my card. For those who lost more than $50 in food as mentioned above, you may want to call first. I didn't have to go in and file a claim.

I certainly do, nutty! It doesn't surprise me, even though we were just about the last to get our power back in the state.stillnutty wrote:WOW sorry, I can t believe that. Well after everything else I can but you know what I mean.

I am not in the flooding. I live out west. However, I think that's wonderful that you received extra on your food stamps. I'm sure I won't receiver any extra on mine. But by thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time!!!!

I am glad to hear that extra was on cards to replenish food losses. I have to keep reminding myself that I really don't have it so bad here. i can only imagine being unemployed and then having storm damages / power outages to contend with. I need to be more thankful for what I do have.
Many blessings to you all who have endured losses and all who are struggling.
