Thousands Camp Out for Job Fair as Jobless Rate Rises

Post by Guest on Sat Aug 20, 2011 10:04 pm

Thousands of unemployed waited overnight, camping out in their business suits and office heels and braving the tormenting heat in Atlanta to stand in line for a job fair Thursday. Authorities treated 20 people for heat exhaustion as they struggled to keep the line moving and get people moved inside.

The incredible turnout at the job fair comes on the heels of the state labor commissioner's announcement that Georgia's jobless rate rose.

I should not have gone to this link, it has caused a few tears and breaks my heart.

If people who have jobs, employment agencies, and recruiters only had a chance to be in the shoes of those seeking work.

A job fair, should have jobs, not colleges selling dreams, not recruiting & agencies building up their inventory.

It is not bad enough that the unemployed are full of worry no matter how hard they try to go on and these job fairs and the economic experts only make us feel worse.

I cannot believe the lack of compassion and more importantly the lack of jobs. People we need jobs......

Most job fairs are a total waste of time for the average skilled worker. I am sure the US Army was there too! Most of the jobs can be done online. They take very few resumes.

About the only thing they're good for is it gives people a sense that they are making an honest effort to find work. You're certainly not going to get a job there. You might get a nice coffee mug out of it and even a matching coaster though!
