Extended unemployment can cause anguish, anxiety, hurt, pain and suffering, loss of health, emotional strain and distress, mental instability - mental health disorders = mental illness, depression, loss of confidence, reduction in self-esteem, lower levels of general happiness, risk of suicide, premature death -early mortality, lasting illness, financial inability to obtain health treatment or necessary medication, high blood pressure, loss of stature, shame, social stigma, humiliation, anger, exhaustion, demeaning living conditions, vulnerability to disease, dental damage, immune system breakdown, inability to think effectively, loss of retirement security, mortgage foreclosure, defaulted credit cards, socioeconomic instability, susceptibility to hopelessness and homelessness, uncertainty, loss of security, loss of skills, self-destructive tendencies, vulnerability to crime - robbery, rape, lack of trust and empathy, reliance on drugs and alcohol, loss of moral compass, lying, criminal behavior, premature aging, loss of patience and diminished determination, deprivation, reliance on food stamps and welfare, shattered families and wrecked lives.

And you're supposed to acquire and hold your next job with all of these negative emotions running through your head? Yeah, try covering THAT up! Your coworkers will see thru that in the first encounter. How are you expected to even get thru an interview carrying all of this baggage? The person conducting the interview will pick up on this right away. That's what they're trained to do. That's one reason why so many of the long-term unemployed are never called back for a second interview.

Any jobs program for the unemployed MUST take this into account. They must not ignore the fact that, thru no fault of their own, the unemployed have been beaten, screwed, betrayed, lied to, and abandoned, just to name a few. And that their attitudes will reflect this. If the jobs program does not attempt to tackle this issue, it will surely be set up for failure. Just another fake, half-hearted attempt to help those out of work.

I was under the impression that I wasn't supposed to be emotional and that my "feelings" don't matter. I am supposed to be tough and pull myself up by my boot straps. That must be why I am awake at 3:30 in the morning as I have been every night for a year.

Also include hunger and malnutrition in the faults of the unemployed. Those unemployed who must go to charity for donations have little choice of nutritious foods and usually must settle for rejected food that isn't fit to eat. Read the labels of the foods you get in a bag from charity. Some areas offer a bag of food once a week, while others only once a month. Other places don't have food for the needy. Soup kitchens must serve those who have nothing.

The coming double dip recession will put more of the unemployed into shelters and they will have to rely on soup kitchens. When the depression hits there will be little left for the needy and the hungry unemployed millions in America.

"When you have 14 million people who are unemployed and you extrapolate those figures going forward to the future, we're going to have a lot of health problems, a lot of psychological health problems to cope with," said Bob Leahy, a psychologist and the head of the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy in New York.

Jerald Jellison, a professor of psychology at the University of Southern California, said that when people lost their jobs, they tended to withdraw from society, shy away from seeing friends and stay holed up at home.

"Employers really do favor people who have jobs," said economist Sophia Koropeckyj, a managing director for Moody's Analytics.

Of course, if you get help at a mental health agency, your data and medical records will be electronically stored, transmitted, and retained forever, so you will always be known as someone who has attempted to get help for any type of mental problem such as depression or anxiety over being broke, hungry, and homeless. Your records will reflect that you are crazy, addicted, alcoholic, depressed and a threat to the public because of your condition. You will be the first suspect in your vicinity if anything goes wrong and you will never be able to clear your name. You will never be able to rent a decent place or get a job if you report that you are having psychological problems. Your mental-medical records will be shared or hacked and be available to anyone who wants them. Of course, you will probably not receive any treatment because much of the funding has been cut from the agencies that can actually help people. Instead, your name will be put into electronic records, which is similar to blacklisting you.

"A number of studies say the jobless are especially at risk of depression, increased anxiety and physical ailments. As a result, we've seen increasing burdens on other systems that are left to respond to people in crisis, like emergency rooms, like law enforcement and jails and prisons and homeless shelters. States hadn't made it easy for people, especially low-income residents, to find easy access to information about their mental health services, which he called "so fragmented" and "incredibly difficult to understand, let alone navigate. Lots and lots of people with serious mental health illnesses fall through the cracks. and we see the evidence around us all the time."

So, it is evident that a person would have to be certifiably crazy to seek help from government social service agencies for depression caused by unemployment or any other problem.

If something happens to my Mom I'm next in line. If I lose my cats I'm done.
