Full time temporary position Empty Full time temporary position

Post by munster05 Thu Aug 11, 2011 9:36 am

I have the possibility of taking a full time temporary 6 months assignment through a temp agency at about 1/3 what I was making at my original job before I started collecting. The job starts Aug 24th, but the first three weeks are 30 hrs so I assume I would mark that as part time income when filing my biweekly claims. After the first 3 weeks however, the hours go up to 40. As of today I have 6 more weeks of my original 26 weeks of UC left then would move on to Tier 1 of EUC. My question is...and I did call the PA service center only to get mixed answers, is once I go to 40 hrs will I still report it as part time earnings since it is a temporary position or do I report that I have a full time position ? Also if I have to report it as full time, this assignment will take me until February 2012 and when I go to reopen my claim I will only have like 2 weeks of regular UC left, but because I went beyond the Dec 24th deadline of my UC benefits ending to move on to tier 1, will I lose the extra 20 weeks of tier 1 ? Also, I assume when I reopen my UC reimbursement amounts will be based on my original claim and not what I earned in the 6 month temporary assignment ?

Thanks everyone, munster

Every state varies slightly, I can answer the question as it would apply to Ohio....
lets assume some real numbers here.. to make it easier
Original claim = 350$ wk original wage =700$ wk new job 235$ wk

I believe you would have to go over your weekly claim amount to STOP your claim....
What you are saying is your new job pays less than your claim amount.

What that does is stretch out the monies available to you over a longer time...

in ohio you would take the 350 total subtract the 235 and claim 115
(except that they let you keep 20 percent, but lets keep it simple here)

Then your remainig balance say 1000$ would be dispuresed over a longer period...

Again once you make OVER the claim amount it will STOP the claim and any monies claimed thereafter would have to initiate a new claim with delays etc. etc.

1) If this new reduced rate eats up your remainig BALANCE before the Tier deadline you should just move into a new Tier....

2) If your new job does let you open a new claim but the amount is less you are allowed to continue on your OLD claim (legislation passed last year)

3) There WILL be some type of extended benifits available to those who have yet to start any Tier...(however the boneheads in congress may delay and delay for a while)

I hope I understood you question correctly and this is of some help if so....
