Petition Delivered: "WE ARE NOT INVISIBLE"
Can't sleep. Too hot and too stressed, so checked my emails and want to share this one which I received at 12:18 AM. It's in response to a petition I signed some time ago. The petition was delivered yesterday, July 23rd. Thought it might be of interest:
Hello petition signers,
I just wanted to make you all aware that as of is morning I delivered our petition to Senator Emanuel Cleaver II of Missouri at a monthly breakfast he hosts with constituents in Independence, MO. The FINAL petition was 101 pages long and printed on orange paper (to represent the orange shirt campaign = the long-term unemployed are NOT invisible) and spiral bound. Senator Cleaver expressed great interest in its content and asked probing questions about its origins, i.e., which organization was behind it (I told him it was a grass roots effort originating from myself and circulated via social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Craigslist). He shared that members of the CBC (Congressional Black Caucus) were organizing a cross-country jobs tour to be launched soon. Next, he asked if I had presented a copy to the White House. I confided that I didn't trust it to arrive there safely much less read. He offered to take a copy to the White House -- and I eagerly handed him an additional copy. He also said that he would like Sen. John Boener to see it. Once again, I gave him another copy. Finally, he collected my contact information and said he would stay in touch.
RESULT: I feel more encouraged than I have in YEARS that someone in our government is aware, sympathizes and wants to resolve our plight. Cross your fingers -- and more than anything else, please continue to make your voices heard and remember: WE ARE NOT INVISIBLE!
