Checking in as promised

So I started the new job last week and as promised I am checking in to tell you how I feel now that I am working after so long.

Lots of people say when they get back to work they feel weird and what not but I feel like I never stopped working. However, now I am seeing life again from someone who is employed and let me say (this might hurt a little), when you get busy with work you barely think about the unemployed/economy/government etc. in general. The day basically wears you out and when you get home you basically just want to relax and make some dinner etc. This is probably how 99% of the workforce feels like and thats why the pleas from the long term unemployed seem to fall on deaf ears. Its because nobody is listening. I don't know, maybe I am wrong about that.

This basically also goes to show that people who are working and drop in on this forum from time to time to berate the unemployed probably have nothing better to do so they choose to pick on people in a position less fortunate than them at the moment.

Anyways, I think the best thing that can be done right now is to create awareness of this situation. The media needs to be involved a lot more. All this needs to be in big bold letters on all the major news papers websites.

The other people I work with seem to know that its "a difficult job market", but I do not think anyone knows exactly what is going on. I try to bring it up as much as I can whenever I get a chance and most people seem surprised when I tell them that people who had homes in the past are basically living on the streets now. I don't know. I just feel like whatever effort is being put into creating awareness about the plight of the unemployed, those efforts need to be doubled.

Like I pointed out earlier, I may be wrong, and I don't mean to offend anyone by this post. I am just posting my feelings after gaining employment. Going to be still here supporting everyone.

On a lighter note, my first purchase from my first paycheck is going to be a bath mat so I don't feel like i'm in an ice skating rink whenever I step in my bath tub to shower. The rest is going into savings for now.

As for the employed not listening, I figured that was the case. Cant blame them really if you think about it. How can anyone possibly know unless they or a close family member are going through it themselves. Its almost hard to believe how bad things really are. I agree 100% with you about doubling our efforts of awareness. People just dont know and they wont take the time to look into it personally unless they are told about it.

Keep up the good work and thanks for checking in!! Oh and make sure you do get that bath mat...now that your finally back to work you dont want to slip and fall in the shower and be put out of commission LOL (that would be my luck)

Glad you seem happy with your job Hello. It is sad that people don't realize. That much I can wrap my head around, the bashing I can't. We all know how uninformed most people are, they don't realize that homes for sale in their neighborhoods are sadly being sold for economic reasons if not shorts or foreclosures. People don't talk anymore, they don't relate like they used to.

Glad u chimed in as well. I'm also back to work but most of my co workers were long term unemployed and now working there. So my experience has been different.

I am way underemployed after two years of unemployment and I never stop thinking about unemployment. I think of it driving to work and home, at lunch etc. Employers know the situation and are taking complete advantage of their workers. I was sooo scarred by being treated like a useless piece of s*** for two years that I fear being fired all the time. I try to not do it but once you seen the bottom you are always scared to fall. I think about all of the unemployed every time I see someone one screwing off on the job-I think-if you want to be lazy I know people who need a job!! LIke I said I am just employed part-time and don't make enough to solve my employment problem.

Thx for checking in with us, good to hear good news. I totally agree about how getting up every day and going to work, then coming home tired out does not leave folks time to think about this crisis. But, we do appreciate your talking with your co-workers, but please be careful with that and don't put yourself in a position to become a target of some kind. Example; you may a co-worker who for some reason or another doesn't care, and maybe doesn't think you should be starting up conversations of this type, it can happen, and they may disclose this to a super or another worker who takes it to management. In this environment in today's work place where employers are working staff to the max, and they are barely holding onto revenue, any reason to come

down on you could happen. I am hearing of this sort of thing all over the place. Thanks for efforts, but know who you are talking with. I know of a case where the person thought she was in with mgmt, but they thought she scared the group and they weren't productive enough, etc.

I am not shouting on the top of my lungs or anything. I bring it up very strategically. Just slide it in here and there when people are talking about something similar (like how they have to pay a bill etc.). I just say "Yeah, money is tight these days..so many people are without work for so many years..". You know, that sort of thing. Other than that, I do my job and come home and go to sleep. Slip a little in the shower in the morning and then i'm off to work again.
Btw, I follow the markets a little bit and my theory is around September the economy should start to really really pick up. So hang in there. Will drop in again soon. I check in every other day to read you guys posts.
