If you exhaust all benefits, can you apply for public assistance?

Yes. There's food stamps in all states, but just exhausting all benefeits doesn't necessarily make you eligeble. It depends on other income, and in some cases, such as a custodial parent receiving child support, this could make you inelegeble. Also, in some states, there's Assurance Wireless.

Hi Agnes! You should be able to qualify for SNAP, and depending on the state you live in, possibly Medicaid.

Also, if you qualify for SNAP (food stamps) or other government services, you are eligible for a Safelink or Assurance Wireless Cell Phone free. Safelink provides 250 free minutes each month. Both Assurance and Safelink are the same program, but the carrier depends on the state you live in.

For more information on that, go to:
https://www.safelinkwireless.com/EnrollmentPublic/home.aspx
OR
http://www.assurancewireless.com/Public/Welcome.aspx

Here is additional information regarding SNAP:

Whether you're able to collect unemployment benefits or if you have exhausted your benefits and became known as a "99er," there are many agencies and services that can help you get by. As has been reported, there are approximately 40% of Americans who are receiving "food assistance," either through a monthly allotment or through the use of debit cards, which are issued by various states.

If you're low income or unemployed, you can apply to your appropriate state agency and apply for food assistance. Know by its program as "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)." In some states the program is known either as SNAP or by its generic description as the "food assistance program." Every month, depending on how much you're alloted for, an amount of funds is deposited onto a debit-type card where you can use at a variety of approved grocery stores. If you want more information on this program, you can find out more about this program by checking out the following website:

http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/

Apply for SNAP, Food Stamps, Food Assistance Program:

http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/applicant_recipients/apply.htm

Remember, don't be ashamed to apply for benefits. It's estimated that 40% of Americans are receiving these type of benefits. Everyone needs help, even if it's only temporary.

For a general overview of what may be available in your state, check out this site:

Good luck, and don't be afraid to apply for whatever services you need. Again, this is only a temporary situation and we got here through no fault of our own.
