It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
Fourteen million Americans remain out of work, a waste of our greatest resource. The 42nd president has more than a dozen ideas on how to attack the jobs crisis.

We are being wasted, human resources as we are now called. All the training and years stolen from people in their prime earning years. These are the years where people are supposed to prepare to care for themselves in their old age. You just watch when we get old they'll say we should've have prepared better. Hard to do when you can't survive today. Can you imagine the tsunami that's coming???

Agreed. I am 40 and want nothing more than to work. I did everything right and am paying the price for doing it right.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
This Newsweek article by former President Bill Clinton is titled:
"It’s Still the Economy, Stupid:
14 WAYS TO PUT AMERICA BACK TO WORK."
http://www.newsweek.com/2011/06/19/it-s-still-the-economy-stupid.html
These ideas would have already been put in motion if Hillary Clinton was President. Obama thinks that the jobs crisis is going to go away and that the unemployed are just a bump in the road.
There is still no Republican co-sponsor of HR 589.
The long-term unemployed are Obama's road kill.
Obama could sign an executive order to make E-verify mandatory and there would be millions of jobs for Americans immediately.
Legal immigration could be halted until there were actually jobs for Americans and summer work programs could be halted for foreign students.
Former President Clinton's suggestions could create millions of jobs in a short time.
Obama is now to blame for this mass unemployment.
It's the President, stupid.

Let's not forget that Clinton signed NAFTA and that George W Bush allowed even more jobs to leave and even said he didn't care. While I am not happy with Obama he's not completely to blame.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
He needs to get rid of the gang that is still in there advising him, some of these people are the same ones Bush had. L. Summers for one, T. Geitner for another, even Bernanke talks about the college educated only has a unemployment number of 5.2 percent or something like that. So, how does that change the real numbers and the years it's going to take to get the rate down and people working. There needs to be some new people with new ideas to get things moving. I guess he thinks since they were in there when this mess started, they are the best to fix it since they helped create some of it.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
I agree that at the very least Geitner isn't living in the real world nor is Summers at times. I doesn't change the real numbers and they like breaking it down, because if they truly report the numbers as they are people would panic and so would the markets, hence the seasonal adjustments, labor, non-farm. The truth is the truth, too many people regardless of their education level are unemployed and we are not paying taxes and it's hurting revenues and they don't want to get it. No revenues = higher deficit. Tax cuts on top of that = huge deficits.

Geitner is a traitor after he assured the Indian outsourcers he wouldn't move jobs back to the USA.

Yep and it's sickening. Like just now I got a call from Chase and it's an Indian calling me. First off if I had a job I wouldn't be late. Second, I wonder if the person who this Indian replaced ever found a job. Maybe they are on here complaining they've been unempoyed years.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
It isn't just India. Distribution companies are now having their products shipped right from China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. right to the retail stores and other companies that buy their goods. India isn't the only problem. IMO, the biggest problem is the US corporations that outsource, not the countries that get the jobs.New_Wave_Princess wrote:Yep and it's sickening. It's the corporations, especially the corporations like Chase who got bailouts.

This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. I couple months ago I didn't have the money for my minimum credit card payment so I called to see if they could move my due date by 4 days so I would get my next benefit check and the Indian woman I talked to said that she couldn't help me but she was sorry to hear about my unemployment situation. I guess she could have been an Indian who was living in America but I beat she wasn't.

Yeah I had someone at Chase a while back actually call me lazy for not having a job! I spoke to a supervisor (an American)and let him have it but of course he called me lazy too.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
Bank of America and CVS also.New_Wave_Princess wrote:It's the corporations, especially the corporations like Chase who got bailouts.
CVS Corporate Headquarters is in Woonsocket, RI. Two years ago they built a multi-million dollar call center building on their property. That center is now transferring the work overseas. It is their Caremark division, which handles mail-order prescriptions. My niece, who lost her job at the BOA call center when they shipped that part of their operation overseas, was fortunate enough to find employment as a manager at the new CVS call center. She is now in the phase out part - most of the employees have been let go, she is working with the techs who are setting up the operation for the outsourcing, but she will be out of a job again in less than a month.
The customer service I have received from companies that have outsourced these jobs has been difficult, to say the least. The people have been polite enough, I just can't understand what they are saying most of the time and have to constantly ask them to repeat themselves. I can't see outsourcing something like health care handled by someone in India, or whatever country gets the jobs. One minor error due to the language barrier could be a matter of life or death.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
That sounds terrible and yep have had problems with the language barriers too. Yet more companies are set to outsource and it scares me. There is a medical call center by me but I wonder if they will eventually send those jobs overseas too.

If it is CVS/Caremark - it is set to go! And it is all your prescription information.New_Wave_Princess wrote:That sounds terrible and yep have had problems with the language barriers too. No it's not Caremark but another healthcare company. I know the local factory that tends to bring in temp workers instead of hiring (Bimba) plans to outsource their entire factory to Mexico.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
Bill Clinton does have some great ideas. What do the Republicans have? Increase the tax on the rich! You never cut federal income when you can't pay your bills, such as the wars.
There are many things that could be done if it wasn't for the traitors that got us in this mess! They are still causing the problems. Especially Jack Welch the former CEO of GE. That old crony, screwed many former GE workers of their manufacturing jobs in this country. I wished he would die penniless! Actually, he will, because you can't take it with you. God's last laugh!

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
That is one of the reasons I wanted Hilary to win the Democratic nomination. I believe she had input into some of Bill's ideas and policies, and he would have been an influential factor on her Presidency. I think we would be much further into "recovery" if she had won.TR11005 wrote:Bill Clinton does have some great ideas. What do the Republicans have? Increase the tax on the rich! And Obama helped GE screw more, so use that anger in the next election and just remember that the unions priced labor to high for a competitive world market so they helped move the jobs too.

Problem is they WANT "LOW" pay workers. LOW pay workers ARE SLAVES. Plenty of those in 3rd world countries. And they want to REDUCE us to that TOO. When they SAY cut COSTS, They mean GO CHEAP. Only SLAVES are CHEAP. The corporate entities have done nothing more than LEGITIMIZED slavery UNDER the guise of "COST Effectiveness". Remove ALL the economic smoke and mirrors and it comes down to WE want to GO as CHEAP as we can for our products and services. Starving, desperate, potentially homeless people are PRIME candidates to be ENSLAVED to do the work. And in the USA we haven't been brought down to that level yet, but they are working on it.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
We are close to that level going by the dropping salaries I see. I just applied for a job paying $25,000 that used to pay over $40,000. I'm sure it'll drop even more. Now many Republicans want to lower minimum wage too.

Re: It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
When I get a bill collector from Indian or outside USA, I let them have it full blast. I am not taking any "shite" off the job stealing a hols. Once it was so bad my whole family stood up against the wall and held their hands over their mouths to keep from dying from laughter. If it's usa caller, I try to ask for payment arrangement, whatever, if they want to call names, I start insulting their genitals and it goes way downhill from there until I hang up. Makes me feel good-it's like free therapy.
