No, We Can’t? Or Won’t?
Yet a destructive passivity has overtaken our discourse. Turn on your TV and you’ll see some self-satisfied pundit declaring that nothing much can be done about the economy’s short-run problems (reminder: this “short run” is now in its fourth year), that we should focus on the long run instead.
This gets things exactly wrong. The truth is that creating jobs in a depressed economy is something government could and should be doing. Yes, there are huge political obstacles to action — notably, the fact that the House is controlled by a party that benefits from the economy’s weakness. But political gridlock should not be conflated with economic reality.
Our failure to create jobs is a choice, not a necessity — a choice rationalized by an ever-shifting set of excuses.

An Infrastructure Project for the Americas could employ millions. Each state has far more than one need. A program like this, while maybe temporary, would last 3-5 years and if it gets the economy going, the hope would be that jobs would be available at it's conclusion.
For a project like that, you would employ all types from administrative to tech, construction, engineering, architects, lawyers, surveyors, laborers of all trades and it would be in every state. The nations power grids are another enormous project that have been long neglected and are to be kind inefficient relics of a by-gone era, there is lots of work to be done here, not to mention the manufacturing jobs that could come back as a result if it were implemented properly. A project for America, Made in America, Built by Americans. It could work! It would need the backing of Congress, therein lies the problem. This was originally how the ARRA was supposed to be handled, as well as shovel ready, that so many laughed at, but implemented properly, it could have been huge, really cut unemployment and improved our individual states. It wasn't large enough and didn't have the backing of the Republicans. Time to make some noise about this.

I forgot one thing. I would need stimulus money to get it going and in the opinion of many, would not be "wasteful" spending.
