Got a job - Finally! Empty Got a job - Finally!

Post by arbeitslos Tue Apr 19, 2011 9:48 pm

I got a job! Just when I thought for sure that I'd never work again, I'm finally hired. I start tomorrow. I'll be working for a local company, updating their website and it's the kind of job I love. It's also on the beach, which has me very happy.

I was on the verge of giving up completely and decided to take one more stab at looking and ended up getting hired. It's such a relief. I'm so used being home and it's going to be weird working again. I keep thinking in the back of my mind that none of this is real and I'll wake up and find out I've been dreaming. Or else I'll go to work and they'll tell me they changed their mind. Crying or Very sad

Thank you, everybody. I really need to get to bed, but my mind is still wide awake. I've never been much of a sleeper... I guess I'll at least get into bed, listen to my iPod a bit and try to relax. I'll let y'all know how it goes tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the well wishes! The day went really well. My coworkers are nice and my supervisor was very pleased with the work I did today. Such a relief! But, I realized how out of shape I am when I climbed the stairs (they have an elevator which I really don't want to use). I've gained so much weight in the past 2+ years. Yet, another bad side-effect of long-term unemployment. Evil or Very Mad I've decided that tomorrow I'm going to start walking on my lunch break. I just hope I don't get heat stroke! I also hope it's okay if I still lurk here and post once in while. There is a lot of valuable advice to be found and I've really come to like the posters. Very Happy

So happy to hear things went well. Getting back into shape won't take long, at least you have something to look forward to now! Very hard to stay active when you are unemployed and have no money or motivation to go anywhere.

Please stay with us and let us know how everything is going and what it is like to be in the real world again.

Good luck tomorrow - stay cool on your walk!

Yes, please keep coming back, arbeitslos. It's important that the working support the unemployed too! We have to remember that we're all in this together because that's what the fat cats want us to forget!

I'm so glad that your coworkers are nice. To me, that can make or break a job right there.

Got a job - Finally! Empty Re: Got a job - Finally!

Post by arbeitslos Fri Apr 22, 2011 11:52 pm

Thank you! It's been a magical week. My immediate supervisor told me how impressed she was with my work and then the big boss came down today to thank me for doing such a great job. I stared at him when he said that and then said to him, "No thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this job." He just smiled, shook his head and replied, "You're welcome, but I still think I need to thank you for working so hard." He then winked and smiled as he left the room. My face was bright red, but I was so happy! My self-esteem had been down to zero and his words, along with my supervisor's, have made me feel so incredibly happy and able again.

I feel bad even posting this because it sounds like I'm bragging, but I don't mean to. If you could only see how I was two weeks ago, how my husband was worried sick that I'd do something stupid, how my family was begging me to stop talking "crazy" whatever that means. I guess what I want to say is that if someone like me, with less than zero self-esteem, can find a job, it means that you can too. It's a matter of looking in less obvious places, of finding that very small, local employment agency, of getting that one break that you might have to make for yourself. Like I said, I never thought it would happen to me, but it did. It's hard work and at times you wonder if it's all worth it. But, in the end, it is. Just keep looking up, instead of down.

Thank you for sharing that. Please don't feel like you are bragging! You should be so proud of yourself.

I am glad everything is going so well and wish you continued success! One day (soon, I hope) we will all be where you are at right now. Your story keeps the hope alive!

You should brag! You've done something that, as we all know, is damn hard to pull off. You just keep doing us proud now.

This morning I was told that, due to government budget cuts, Friday will be my last day. As you all can imagine, I'm devastated. We just got caught up on our bills and now this happens. I guess I should be glad I had a normal life for a couple of months. Sigh... I don't think I can get back on the job search merry-go-round again. I'm dying a bit inside right now. Crying or Very sad
