Anyone hear from Lee & Scott?

Post by woodhorse74 on Tue Jun 21, 2011 8:38 pm

At this time I feel that Lee & Scott are not helping 589. I think it is all
over. I hope and pray every day that it will come out of committee and
be voted on. We all need this help. I am so sorry I voted for Obama.
I was afraid of McCain and Palin so I took the other choice. People wanted
change. I feel he is a coward and will not stand up to the republicans. I think he is in South Africa with his family and we are paying for all of his vacations. We do need Bernie Sanders to stand up for us because we have no action from him.

His mother is from Kentucky by the way.

The GOP are too busy with their 13 Abortion bills. Number of jobs bills 0! Then again the rights number one goal is to make Obama fail country be dammed. If they would just step out of the way and shut their mouths we could be out of this by now.

They also keep blocking Obamas appointments. He can't get the right people into place and there are TONS of vacancies in VERY IMPORTANT positions because the GOP does not want to fix anything.

Am I happy with him NO not completely. The other choice is not an option. He can't scream the SKY is FALLING and create panic. Trust me I fought hard for the 99er bill and I am not happy he has ignored the 99ers. TIME TO HIT THE STREETS.

I definitely think he should show more support for the unemployed. My fear with that is, if he shows its something hes really interested in fixing, the GOP will fight even harder against it.

Another point I want to make...Ive been thinking about this a lot lately. We all see how bad things are on the news and in articles etc. can you imagine how bad it really is? What we see is all they allow us to see. There is much more going on behind the scenes that we dont know about. That goes for the current political climate as well as the economy. Its pretty frightening.

I think we can all agree we are not happy with the state of America right now. Blaming anyone isn't helping. Those of us who sat through all last summer and watched every bill get shot down that was introduced knows that it wasn't the Democrats shooting them down. Bernie Sanders gave very impassioned speeches on several occasions, including his fillabuster. It got him nowhere and it did not help the 99ers though he tried. Presidents don't write bills. Congress and Senate do write bills. The republicans are still riding the high of November and floating on the coattails of the Tea Party. They are convinced that they will get their tax cuts and they will then snap their fingers and everyone who is unemployed or a 99er will disappear and jobs will magically come back. They honestly believe that they will win big in November 2012 and that's it. In my opinion, that what they want us to think and they spin it that way. No one is agreeing with them, they are panicking over their candidates, they are still sending the party to try and recruit candidates. But they will continue to posture and make the lives of millions a holy hell. If the President comes out for the unemployed or the 99ers you can bet it's going nowhere, they will kill it like they are trying to kill HR589. Like they killed 3706, like they made people wait and wait for extensions. Right now the Progressive Caucus is our best hope and somehow a deal with the debt ceiling is a possibility. They have no idea how to get companies to hire, unless they give away the house so to speak. Time for that to stop, we need jobs and our government needs revenues to continue to run programs needed by so many that depend on it. Another bad housing report and jobs report and things are going to really heat up. What I don't understand is why everyone is so eager to scream about what the Dems can't get done, but give the Repubs a break when they have said no to everything, yes everything since early in 2009.

@ MaryKay - You have expressed our frustrations with Obama, Lee and the Republicans quite well. Are there any Republican co-sponsors of HR 589? Didn't think so. Is HR 589 going to get out of committee? Didn't think so. Is Obama going to be able to do anything to create jobs or help the unemployed? Didn't think so. Are the Democrats going to be able to break the gridlock in Congress and get the government moving again? Didn't think so. Is there any hope for the unemployed or should they start fitting us for body bags?

President Obama has taken actions that cut the taxes for the rich and bailed out huge corporations and given amnesty for illegal aliens, but cannot help the unemployed. He would like to help get the economy back in shape, but can't. He would like to stop the recession, but can't. He would like to do a lot of great things for the American people, but can't. His attitude and wimpy behavior has doomed this nation to years of decline. His new war in Libya will eat up any money available and make it impossible to rebuild America and put Americans back to work.

But please do not blame Obama for his mistakes, failures, and lack of leadership. It is all my fault. I voted for Obama. - U.S. Citizen

Why do they want to blame democrats for trying and give the republicans a break for purposely keeping this going? Because, for some reason, working class people want to believe in the republicans. I don't understand it either. We have all watched them shoot down every bill that would have helped the unemployed since Scott Brown was elected. Imagine how that changed things. If Ted Kennedy had still be in office we would have Stabenow's tier 5 bill, more stimulus, incentives for companies to hire, and the bill taxing companies that outsource jobs.

But it's Obama's fault.

Its is our fault for letting it to continue to happen. I think it will be a long hot summer and finally something will explode. The Republicans will pay for their actions. January 1, 2012 is coming. Many of these so called Tea Party politicans that got in will be facing recall votes. No way is over even after the Fat Lady sang years ago.

The Congressman Weiner thing is small compared what will happen to the Republicans. Remember my words. Ted Kennedy is still alive in many of us. "How much Greed is enough?"

USA, I will re-read my post, I am not blaming the President. If you took it that way, apologies. I am an admirer of the President. I do feel he could show more support. I do not blame himfor this mess or for our particular plight. I DO blame the Republicans and the people who elected them all last november after a summer of NO. How you got that from my posts I don't know. I believe as many that the Tea Party and many Republican, while being deficit hawks are nothing more than hot air, with no solutions to Jobs other than cutting taxes again and again, didnt work so far and doubt if it will work at all.

lendme, if you re-read this you will see, I am not saying this is Obama's fault at all. I am a supporter. I am not a fan right now of any Republican or any Republican action that has taken place. I have said this many times and I will say it again. Anyone who was disgusted last November and voted Republican should be pleased wtih the lack of action we now see in DC. I was not one of the Republican voters. I have been very committed to this cause and very committed to getting help for the 99ers. Although there is plenty of blame to go around, I do not blame this President for the mess he inherited or for the lack of real cooperation he receives from the House and Senate. I do however feel, that as our President, he should speak out for the unemployed, the 99ers and the way we have to live. He can't draft a bill, but he can make his feeling known just a little more. If nothing else, it would make all his supporter, like me and many of you feel a little better.

Please re-read what I have written above and you will know, I feel much the same as you.

I also believe we now have some opportunities to do something about this, please sign the letter and help us get more emails and calls out. Please call the Reuters reporter and tell your personal story. We cannot afford to be idle, we are going to have to fight for ourselves even harder than we have been if we are to get out of this. Bills will not leave committee, they will languish. Take advantage of every opportunity you have to get your voices heard.

In my opinion the main problem over all these unemployment issues are that most people just don't care. If your not unemployed or don't have a close loved one who is, then it just does not effect you.
I think a lot of people also feel anger at the unemployed. If you are working a job you hate, going in every day week in and week out. Then you turn on say Fox news and hear all the slander about how lazy the unemployed are, how they are on funployment and collecting all this money for just sitting around doing nothing, I think it gets to them and makes then hate us. In PA we just got our EB benefits restored and two people I know have already said that they believe that is crazy, all these unemployment benefits need to end now. That is the kind of culture that is out their right now.

I will say this though, Lee and Scott and all those co-sponsers of 589 may not be able to bring it out of committe, but they sure can talk and yell about it, which is something that they have not done in quite a while. With Unemployment in the news, now is the time to speak up on it! If they continue to pretty much remain silent by September this bill will be a dead issue. All 99ers from the past year or so were part of the "first wave" of unemployed. If this is not addressed in the next few weeks, in my opinion the first wave will be casualties of the recession of 08. That will be all that will be said about them.

I agree atctz, time for lots of yelling from them and from us. I agree also, so many americans are very unfocused, I guess would be a nice way to put it, unless of course, it is happening to them. I don't understand it, with prices and taxes being what they are, but I have always been interested in and following these things, maybe many just don't care. Sadly, they will learn to care when it costs 300 a week to feed a family of 3 and they haven't had a raise in over 2 years. Then you will see the masses. I disagree on one thing, I think those of us who are 99ers now are in fact the first wave, but the second wave is coming and possibly a third. That's when you will hear some noise. Think of just how badly that will hit the economy. Anyone from 2008 and now add 2009, all exhausted benefits and no jobs, no 99ers bill watch how fast it impacts the recovery.

The problem is MaryKay, I agree with you that the second wave which I am in, and third, etc will come. My problem is, when all these long term unemployed start coming into the public light will anyone do anything for that first wave? I think their will be so many to deal with that those who lost their jobs in 08 will simply be forgotten. I also have my doubts that they will do anything for that second or third wave as well. That is why this bill needs to come into debate now.
