Unemployment rates fell in fewer than half of U.S. states, a sign that job growth has slowed in many parts of the country.

The unemployment rates dropped in 24 states, the Labor Department said Friday. Rates rose in 13 states and Washington, D.C, and were flat in 13. That's a significant decline from April, when 39 states reported falling unemployment rates.

According to this article in the Boston Globe:
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2011/06/16/mass_unemployment_falls_to_76_percent_in_may/
Unemployment in Mass. went DOWN .2% in May, and yet there were 4,000 jobs LOST...using those numbers, if we lost 8,000 jobs, it would have gone down .4%, and we could get the unemployment all the way down to ZERO if we could just lose 156,000 jobs...call me insane, but these numbers seem just a wee bit fishy to me. Lowering unemployment requires MORE people working, not less. Seems they're going to report lower unemployment regardless of what the numbers say, and assume we're too stupid to notice.

Remember...fuzzy math? You have to remember, every time someone stops collecting, exhausts all benefits, they are no longer counted. Anyone who was laid off in May/June 2008 is not longer counted and joins the ranks of 99ers. Depending on your trigger and if you receive EB (state benefits) HUP-EB (state High Unemployment Period benefits) and the number of weeks you particular state allows, the number will include only those still collecting or just filing. The balance are left on their own. No benefits/not counted = invisible. Sad times.

Yes this is a big problem. When you are not collecting you are not counted so the number of unemployed is much higher. We have 9.1% unemployment here in AZ. This is a very high percentage. And yet our governor called a legislative session on EB and accomplished nothing. So 15,000 of us will now suffer as a result. Very sad times indeed. 10.9% and holding in RI. Of course, that does not include the 99ers - even the Director of Labor and Training admits that real UE rate here is much higer.

That is why I KNOW that MA's UE rate is BS! I have been looking in MA and CT for jobs and there are none anywhere!!

That is over and done with now! We lost a strong advocate in Congress and also a VERY vocal supporter of HR 589. The list of 83 co-sponsors has now dropped to 82! I'm glad some people think it is a joke, because I don't.

Rather than focusing on the real issues of the day, the media is busy cracking jokes and the politicians get to avoid figuring out how to deal with issues they have no idea how to fix.

Let's get back on topic and be serious and try to figure out how we are going to survive when there is NOTHING left. That is no laughing matter to me!
