A new pet peeve: "job has expired"

Post by New_Wave_Princess on Tue Jun 07, 2011 3:32 pm

I get job alerts from many sources including Careerbuilders and Monster. While wading through the 90% that are junk I usually find one of two jobs that sound legit and sound like jobs I can do. Guess what? I then click on the link and it says "job expired". This happens all the time.

I had a feeling it was you who responded because I know you feel so much like I do. But yeah I am seeing this all the time and I doubt that these jobs were already filled. I mean one was posted on a Tuesday and removed on a Thursday. I suspect they post it to make a hiring legit.

The state of Mass gave me the job opportunity of "soldier". I'm 61 years old! Think they'll take me??

The IDES here actually called to offer me a commission based job selling cell phones. When I rejected it the lady actually told me if I was on unemployment they'd actually expect me to take it. unreal.

new wave, I don't think they can do that. I am not sure where you are located, but in PA and NJ it has to be a job comparable to your last job, wages within a certain % of last job. Last time I checked any commission only jobs were not counted as there is no guarantee of income and if you were not previously a commissioned based only sales rep, it would not apply. Check that with your BLS website or your Dept of Labor. I know it's tedious, but if you find out to the contrary, that should be reported. Scare tactics are not allowed.

I get this as well newwave. Particularly on the comcast/monster site. Also, postings that jobs have been available for 5 months or more??? Who is kidding who.

This was Illinois and the unemployment here is corrupt as is all the government jobs. The cell phone company probably paid off the workers or something.

Yeah I've seen this one job on and off since last April on Careerbuilders. It's done for a month or so then re appears. They are either hiring for non existant jobs or they hired someone who quit right after. One of the temp agencies here always advertises certain jobs and when I've called about them they always say they just hired for them. Yeah right.
