Just read this and all I could do was shake my head as they refer to the fact that job openings are not being filled because of a "skills mismatch", please let's try unemployment status and or age is more like it, IMO Rolling Eyes

Mismatched skills - that is the best phrase yet to hide age discrimination. What are older, experienced workers supposed to do? They want kids fresh out of school who will work for a fraction of what we used to make!

I can attest to what they want now - it's EVERYTHING they can get. A normal job position, such at an IT Analyst. Which I have done for over 20 years, now includes the requirement to do SQL programming, .NET programming, and all other sorts of abilities that I've only touched on. I know I coud learn all of these skills, but I have not have the opportunity - it's a upward spiral of the employer requiring more and more as a "entry level" position and IT'S NOT FAIR, but it's life, so I take all opportunities to go on-line and learn as much as I can.

Typical. Companies are looking for "purple squirrels", and wondering why no one meets their requirements. No one seems to be willing to provide on the job training these days, because it is all about short term thinking. While I've always worked retail/customer service, every job requires new skills and knowledge.

When private enterprise has rectal/cranial inversion, government has a obligation to step in. How about tax credits for training new workers on the job (not internships)? Hard to lift yourself by your bootstraps when you can't afford boots!
