Family that quit their jobs on 'Rapture Day' react to being alive on May 22
'Judgment Day' came and went on Saturday, and John Ramsey hasn't been able to sleep.
The 25-year-old Harrison, N.J. resident had rearranged his life in recent months to devote himself to spreading a fringe California preacher's prediction that May 21 would bring worldwide earthquakes and usher in a five-month period of misery before the world's destruction.
Like many of those convinced of the Rapture was pending, Ramsey quit his job, donated "a couple thousand" to Harold Camping's Family Radio network and convinced family members to join him to spread news of the Rapture on Manhattan streets.
His family nervously huddled in their apartment living room Saturday, holding their Bibles open, switching between CNN, Facebook and Google for news of quakes in the Pacific.
They cried. They hugged. They argued. But mostly, they waited. Nothing happened.
On Sunday, a dejected Ramsey said he faces a "mixed bag."
He has to find a new job. So does his mother. His 19-year-old brother, who had quit high school the year prior ("It's pointless to graduate," the brother had said), is thinking of re-enrolling or finding employment.

Can you say "GULLIBLE" and "STUPID"???? Doesn't anybody remember Jim Jones, Heaven's Gate, Oral Roberts BS, Y2K, Hal Lindsey, Dianetics???? Need I go on????
People just NEED to GET OVER following END OF THE WORLD BS and LIVE their LIVES "WELL" and contribute TO THE BETTERMENT of the WORLD instead of waiting for it to END. This CRAP has been going ON for thousands of years and NOW we wait TO SEE in 2012 if ancient human sacrificing heathen savages, whose civilization DIDN'T survive PREDICTED "THE END". People need to just stop following this crap and deal with the problems HERE and NOW. If the end comes...it comes and people need to be acting MORE saintly NOW in their lives for their brownie points upstairs if they REALLY want to get ready for the END. But NAW...thats TOO much common sense to follow as Agent Kay (Men in Black): said "A *person* is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."

Re: Family that quit their jobs on 'Rapture Day' react to being alive on May 22
I think I read by last Thursday that Camping had received 72 million in donations!!! Why can't people see the real reason he is doing this?
I know when times are desperate, and they seem to be so right now, people will follow anyone, particularly if they show them hope. So to mistermunsters point, if you truly believe this, why would you quit jobs, leave schools, why not start volunteering to help the sick and needy if you a really looking for a stairway to heaven. If the world is truly ending, and you and your Rev. Mr. Camp believe this, that only the truly good will go to heaven and those left roaming the earth will have to repent and face their sins, what is Mr. Camp going to do with your 72
million. I don't think he is going to set up a trust fund to pay for the sinner tickets to heaven.
If people want to get to heaven, they can get their on their own, they just have to decide they want to be better people. You don't need money or a high paying job, you have to be decent, kind and caring. You won't get there by scamming people out of their hard earned money by lying to them.

That is terrible. Camping is a fraud. How do people like him get followers?? Are people that naive?

If they are that stupid, then their jobs should go to someone else. I don't feel sorry for them at all.

Mr. Camp is a deceiver at the minimum and a fraud, and has done a great diservice to those of the Christian faith. Many theological experts discredited his teachings as being unbiblical (reference Matthew, chapter 24). It is too bad that he and so many of his followers succeeded in deluding so many and doing harm to them in the process. I'm afraid we will see even more of this as we approach 2012.

It's sad that the scare tactics of the Rev. Mr. Camp and the Jim Jones' of the world get to so many who feel hopeless and the searching for hope, that's how he attract them. The are low and desperate for something to help them find a better way. I do feel sorry for them and again, in a world of 24 hour new and congressional investigations being held for nonsense, why is there no "look see" into the legality of their fund raising? He's almost worse than Bernie Madoff, because he takes from people who will never be able to earn back their losses and he will not be asked to make restitution. That's really sad in my opinion.

None the less!!!! The bible warns to be ready! All of our terminology and metaphor's and hostilities are as bad as the dooms day forecasters. They are fools. Simply wisdom says, "be ready at any time, No man can predict or know the hour or time". And you are right in many respects!

Wow, lot's of good advice here. The concensus here says/preaches that we should all be individually as good as we know how on a daily basis, doing good works and so forth. I am really gladdened to hear and be reminded of such decent advice. It is a very good beginning.

One lady cut her daughters throat because she thought the end was coming. These people put up giant billboards saying the end is coming.

Too bad those in Congress who constantly work against the unemployed did not take this nonsense seriously and decide to quit their jobs last week! THAT may have ushered in the beginning of a new world for all of us! LOL!!! Sorry, just feeling malicious and sarcastic this morning! I'll behave later, after I've had my morning dose of caffeine!

Re: Family that quit their jobs on 'Rapture Day' react to being alive on May 22
you said it mistermunster. This is a huge problem that exists today, people wearing blinders and voting based on one issue or religious beliefs, no matter what the consequences for the country, not just for the unemployed or the 99ers. If we all voted that way, we'd be in serious trouble. In the Delaware primary last year, voters (Tea Party backers) voted in Christine O'Donnell, who is now under federal investigation for inappropriate use of campaign funds as she had been before, she beat the candidate who is beloved in Delaware because no one showed up to vote and then thankfully, was slaughtered in the November election by Chris Coons. She is my poster child for really blind voting. Being angry at the Democrats and voting Republican is not the way to vote and vice versa. You can do far more damage. Voter education is mandatory. Know your candidates positions on everything, it takes time, but it's worth it. Anyone who lives in NJ and pays 7k a year in property taxes on a postage stamp knows what I mean. Meanwhile, they eliminate half of Camden's police dept. and give millions in loans to Atlantic City to finish building stalled casino projects and hotel projects when their revenues are the lowest they have ever been.

Had my 2 cups of tea, don't feel any better about it Pamela. However, here is what I don't get. They have reported on many news outlets, this man has raised 72 million. Congress investigates everyone and every thing at our expense, except of course when it's scamming hopeless people out of their hard earned money. They learned nothing from the Jim Jones horror at all.

I agree. The greatest tragedies throughout history have always come when terrible mistakes of the past are forgotten, or ignored. We must always learn from mistakes or history will continue to repeat itself. A lesson which seems never to be learned.
It's terrible that one individual can control others' minds...and quite scary. Very sad that some really believed it, and also frustrating that he was allowed to continue with his "revelations" of doomsday. I totally agree with your thought about other investigations being done, yet this was allowed to go on and on. As I said, so many lessons have not been learned. That is also quite scary.
I've had my tea, too, and also feel no better. My mood the last day or so seems to match the dismal weather here. Hoping my disposition brightens when the sun returns. They say that may not happen for about a week.
I'm still emailing and calling as many as I can. Hoping for light at the end of the tunnel.
