I have an interview Friday and. . . .no insurance?????
I have an interview this Friday at 10am. I have been in Advanced Peer Practices Monday-Wed this week 8:30am - 4:30pm. I got home at 4:20pm yesterday and the phone rang the second I walked in the door. Good thing my mom was home to answer it! (We don't know a cell).
I still have my lunch bag in my hand! I was asked if I wanted the full-time temporary position of driver/group leader. I said "YES". It pays $12 an hour. I interviewed with this posiiton back in Feb. But someone else had a class B license so they got it. the position offers no health insurance and all I have now is county insurance. It is something - and the county insurance will pay for my surgery I need! I mean, I can pay $200 a month for insurance out of my pocket, but is that worth if I get a job that only lasts 4 weeks??? Some would say "No".
I have been networking with a few people and I'm not sure if someone else is going to call me for another interview/position that is on-call. So, if I am called for the on-call position, I'm in the same predicament! I will be left with no insurance. The good thing about the on-call position is that it may last longer. The full-time temporary position may last only a month or it could last 5 months or 8.
I am hoping I can file for bankruptcy since I'm so broke it is not even funny. I'm being sued by Discover Card and I'm to report to the court when I get a job. (That has been in collections for 2 years). But If I get a temporary job, that will NOT help me! That would start the clock all over again on the Statue of Limitations and if my wages are garnished at $480 gross (or #336 a week net). . . that will not be good if it only lasts for 1 month! I can't just pay $480 in one month and then say "Oh, it was a temporary job" and now my job is gone! So, I'm thinking bankruptcy would work out much better for me since ALL of my credit cards are in collections.
I wish there was a way for me to find out if this temp job has a good chance of lasting me 3 or 4 months since I could pay that thing off in 3 or 4 months at $12 an hour! I want this stupid court and Discover Card and their lawyers off of my back! Lord knows, if I have a permanent job full-time, I'd pay it ALL back!
But at least I have an interview Friday. And it may take several weeks for my live-scan and TB to get back. And they'd send me out to a place to get the live-scan, pee test, and TB test. It's better than no interview at all!

Good luck, Sandra. Hopefully, the on call job leads to full-time, permanent.

it is full-time, but temp. No way for them to know if it will last 1 month or 4 months or what. I must ask what their stategy is. I can't be left with nothing and if I earn $12 an hour, my county insurance will be gone. But I can't afford to pay $400 a month for out of pocket health care if this job only lasts 1 or 2 months. It is NOT worth it! I thought I could get good health coverage for $200 a month. Nope. I have to pay more like $366 a month. And I can't afford any deductiables! I don't have $1500 or $3K laying around in some off shore account and I don't have stocks, bonds or even a savings account! I should have got a ROTH IRA when I heard of it back in 2004. I was working 32 hours a week back then and bring in $800 or $900 a month. I could have put back $200 a month to save toward a ROTH IRA.

Sandra...I filed bankruptcy over 10 years ago...I didn't have a choice either, but it sure made me feel better when I had no debt. Of course, now, that's all in the past, as my debt is adding up once again.
