Re: Blog post: The Long Term Unemployed Do Not Have Cooties
I just tweeted this blog to the CBC and the President.
This blogger could be me. This is the way we live. I can really relate to this part. It is one reason I keep to myself and avoid friends and family.

They know about the long term unemployed but, even if it’s a friend or family member, compassion is eventually replaced by “Gee, too bad. Whew, glad it’s not me. I can afford to pay their rent for a year, but why should I? Now, let me get back to planning that trip to Aspen for the family….”

Frankly, I think it's all lip-service, except from Bobby Scott and Barbara Lee. The rest are just saying, "yeah, me too....i support the 99ers", but they're not out there pushing for anything at all.
And this quote from CBC chairman Cleaver sums it up. Here, TR is "The Root", which is a magazine or online news source and EC is Emanuel Cleaver:
TR: Does that mean the 99ers bill (for workers who have exhausted their unemployment benefits) is off the table?
EC: That's not going to happen, in spite of the fact that we feel strongly about it. There's $31 billion being returned to the federal government that could be used for unemployment benefits, but states have decided that they will just send that money back, and they're not going to administer it. The 99ers issue is one that we know is not going to be funded because it will require new legislation that would never get out of the House.
