Back to work

Post by arcman on Sat May 07, 2011 11:09 pm

I haven't been on the forum in a long time. I used to go by the name onawa2000 in the old forum. I think it was Sept. of 2009 that I originally registered on Unemployed Friends. I was laid off May 30th, 2008. I finally got called back to work yesterday. I start tomorrow on a short call job. 4 days. I know it don't sound like much, but its good money and will keep my head above water a little longer. It's maintenance work at a power plant. Much bigger job coming up at the same place on July 1st. Probably 1-1/2 years of construction work. Excellent pay.
Work, and rumors of work are starting to pick up here in Iowa. I really hope this is a good sign for the rest of the country.

Heres what I noticed recently. A lot of jobs are being posted in construction. Not just the actual labor but also administrative jobs. And today while driving I noticed a sign on a local freeway here that its scheduled to be expanded in the next month or so. Things should be picking up hopefully.

Yes, I've noticed that construction is picking up out here in the SW as well. Not housing construction, but roads, and other municipal projects. Saw this when the first stimulus came through as well, but now I think it is bond money that was appropriated a couple of years ago with an election, etc. Takes a long time to get things ready to move forward. I also know that some airports have projects as well. This is all good for private construction companies. Yippee, put those guys (and gals too) back to work!!
