Dear Carol,
As you know, the federal budget is being debated in the halls of Congress and throughout the nation. Unfortunately, the recently released 2012 Republican Majority's budget proposal would end Medicare as we know it, denying seniors a fifty year old health care guarantee. Under the proposal, Medicare as we know it would be eliminated. Seniors would be at the mercy of insurance companies and forced to shoulder the burden of rising health care costs, only to end up uninsured.

Support for seniors in nursing homes would also be slashed, leaving seniors and disabled citizens at risk of abuse and neglect. A recent poll released by the Wall Street Journal shows that 66% of seniors and 53% of Americans reject plans to end Medicare. I agree with the majority of America - we need to protect the health coverage that seniors deservingly receive after a lifetime of hard work.

I recently hosted a telephone Town Hall where I invited thousands of California District 32 constituents to discuss with me the proposed House Majority's budget and its impact on the Medicare program. After polling the attendees, 89% don't want Medicare repealed in the 2012 Republican Majority's budget.

I am open to an honest debate about ways to grow our economy, create jobs, and reduce the national deficit, but it must be done in a responsible way. The current budget proposal eliminates Medicare and makes steep cuts to Medicaid, which will prevent hard-working American families from prospering. As budget conversations continue, I will move forward in pursuing the best interest of the taxpayer and our community.

If you would like to share your views on the proposed House Majority's budget that would end Medicare as we know it and significantly reduce Medicaid, please call my El Monte office at (626) 448-1271 or my Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-5464.

As always, it is a pleasure to be your representative in Congress. If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact my offices in the 32nd District or in Washington, D.C.

In Friendship,

Judy Chu, PhD
