Every few years or so, the Republicans trot out one of these little whippersnappers, who offer proposals to hack away at the federal budget. Each successive whippersnapper inevitably tries, rhetorically, to out-mean the previous one, and their proposals are inevitably couched as the boldest and most ambitious deficit-reduction plans ever seen. Each time, we are told that these plans mark the end of the budgetary reign of terror long ago imposed by the entitlement system begun by FDR and furthered by LBJ.

At Easter dinner today, the octegenarians (who are Republicans) got all worried and upset when I said "I don't know what I'm gonna do when I get older because the Republicans are trying to take away my Medicare."

I'm 55.

Hey, it's not my fault that all they heard was "Republicans", "take away" and "Medicare".

I'm going to hell, aren't I? Twisted Evil

I went to visit my sister for a short time and I asked her if she was following politics - she said no - I then told her about the Republicans trying to take away Medicare, privatize social security and give the upper two percent an additional tax break. She didn't believe me - but she did say that she doesn't feel middle class anymore. So for a half hour I talked to her about the budget, Wisconsin, union busting etc. etc. etc. - she was amazed. She's 70 and still works and she is not on Medicare. Told her she needed to pay attention, wake up and stand up to get our country back. She's also a die hard Republican but I gave her food for thought!

If it's taken away for everyone who is now 54 or younger, guess who will be next, and how much support will the 55 and older people get frfom those who will no longer be promised Medicare? It's a textbook strategy of divide and conquer. If the vouchers (YES they ARE vouchers and their value will decline year after year) are so wonderful why doesn't the GOP propose universally and immediately substituing the vouchers for Medicare's guaranteed coverage. The answer, I think, is obvious.

Preaching to the choir, truth. I figure they're gunning for all of us eventually. The point was that for now at least, they're leaving the really old people alone, but it was still fun scaring them since they're Repubs.

lol! However, many do have sons, daughters, and grandkids, so they better be on board for opposing the GOP plan.
