Extended unemployment insurance benefits for the long-term jobless are set to expire this month in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Tennessee, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

In Missouri, a Republican state senator who filibustered a bill that would maintain the state's eligibility for EB relented on Tuesday, deciding to focus his anti-spending efforts on federal stimulus measures instead of federal unemployment benefits.

The National Employment Law Project expects Alaska, Alabama, Kentucky, and Virginia to trigger off EB benefits after the Labor Department releases state unemployment rates later this month.

California, Colorado, and Michigan have changed their laws to maintain eligibility for the benefits, according to the Labor Department. (Though Michigan curtailed future state benefits at the same time it changed its EB trigger.)

I recognize some of you from the old site. I hope everyone is well. I am from MO and as you know we have a senator that blocked the vote to accept fed funds for EB but has relented apparently. I was shocked when I went on the NELP site and realized that these checks will stop for everyone at various times in the upcoming months. I think NV is the only safe state.

Rhode Island is another safe state. Our Governor and General Assembly have no plans to cut it off. EB here is state funded. The state has already taken action to preserve it due to the high unemployment rate, which I believe is the third or fourth highest in the country right now at 11.5%. I also believe California has also taken measures to ensure EB stays in place through this period of hight unemployment.

Good to see you here. I wish I was in that senator's district as I would love to vote him out.

EB is state funded in NC as well but we lose it in 7 days unless this new bill passes. Our unemployment rate is 9.7%. I would not take for granted that you will continue in the program and start making calls and emails now.

Unfortunately, I have been a 99er for a year now, I collected EB after tier 2. The RI General Assembly recently approved a bill raising SUTA and the earnings limit on it. The Governor signed it into law and has assured residents that EB will continue.

The news reported a couple of days ago that he relented because he got a deal. From here forward in Missouri unemployment will drop from 26 weeks to 20 on an intial claim. Have not heard anymore about this since then.

Hey DesperateInRI, I would like to keep the Pennsylvania thread I started updated as we are probably the next to go, so it is very important. I hope you don't mine. I will also keep this thread updated.

So I have just called the Senators office in Philadelphia. The young woman told me to call Amanda in Harrisburg since everyone who would know anything was out to lunch. I called Amanda in Harrisburg and she put me through to speak with Sherry in Harrisburg (717) 787-1141. I explained I wanted to know if the Senator was working on legislation to get Extended Benefits based on a three-year look back. She told me yes they were working on it, they would then have to get some supporters of the bill, it would then get a print #. After that they would vote on it and if they get enough votes, and I think they will if we write/fax/email every PA legislator we can, it will pass and go to the Governor for his signature in short order.. That was right out of the Harrisburg office. So lets get moving on the legislators, names and email, phone #'s. I am so tired, I have to get some sleep now.
Told the young woman Sherry from the Senators Harrisburg office that she would probably be getting some phone calls so start calling. Dazed&Confused

It is. It's a Red State for sure and the head of some tea party I have seen interviewed on TV lives here in St. Louis. KC & STL always vote democratic and the presidential election was closer than those in the past. One of the reasons I left 30 years ago (but moved back 6 years ago for cheaper home prices).

Hey MoInSTL good to see you! I hope Lembke pays a huge political price for what he has done. Even if it does eventually get extended. I have enough to get by for 3 weeks but then I am hurting for sure. If it gets started back up I have 10 weeks left. I hope all is well with you and I hope that you are employed let me know you can pm me or you can send me an email if you still have my email address.
