Looking for work? 3 million jobs are available
The picture is improving for unemployed job seekers. In February, hiring picked up and the ratio of unemployed seekers to available jobs improved to reach the lowest level since the end of 2008, according to the latest government readings released Wednesday.
The Labor Department reported that there were 3.1 million job openings in February, up 352,000 from January and 570,000 from year-earlier levels. It was the largest number of available positions since September 2008.

IF these jobs exist would love to see the hour wage breakdown. Min wage 20 hrs, which I would gladly take at this time. As we exhaustees, over 50 s know we are not even considered for THESE jobs! Wait until next month after Micky D s hiring blitz. When the Govt announces the new jobs created, the band will play Happy Days are here again, and we will hear a new round of jobs are there, why are n t you working.

I just read something that stated most of the newly created jobs were low paying minimum wage. So yes there are more jobs opening, just not for people like us.

Unfortunately, they are for people like us. Also, three million is not enough.

Unfortunately, these places don't hire us and it gets worse the more overqualified one is.

Me too. I've stooped to applying at stores and restaurants. Years ago I did overnight stocking so I applied at several overnight stocking jobs. They all rejected me so I called them and one of them told me they didn't hire college grads.

Its simple math. The Jobs to job seeker ratio is way out of whack.

I believe the numbers but they don't tell you what the jobs are. For example, Dick's sports is hiring in my area for part time 10-12 hours per week. What good does that do me? $8 and hour for 10 hours.
There are also jobs that have such specific qualifications that nobody can get them.

I just saw a huge ad that my local Best Buy is hiring. However, when I investigated it was all part time jobs paying a little more than minimum wage. Best Buy also has a reputation for stereotypes and they tend to put women in cashier and men in electronics. I know because a few years ago I applied at the store and that's what they wanted to interview me for. I applied for the Geek Squad training and they rejected me. Kind of reminds me of 20 years ago when I applied for the music department at a now defunct retail chain (Venture)and they put me in health and beauty because I was a woman. I know far more than most men when it comes to electronics and couldn't care less about health and beauty.
