Question about extended benefits work search form Empty Question about extended benefits work search form

Post by snoopy77 Wed May 18, 2011 1:17 pm

Hi everyone, I have a question about extended benefits in the state of Illinois.

I am about to start EB soon and I called unemployment to speak to someone in regards to my work search form. They were very vague on the criteria required for my job searches, so I hope someone here can help.

Many places that I walk into looking for work tell me to apply online via their website. If I do this though, I will have no contact name for the form (like an HR person). Will any jobs I apply to online count as a good work search entry on my form? Most places these days don't give you the hiring managers name and they want you to apply online. Several of them also will not be able to give you the status of your application (example-I applied for a receptionist job through National Vision. They have a job hotline that says "due to the high volume of applicants, you will only be contacted if you qualify".)

I have been busting my butt looking for any kind of work, by going to businesses personally and by applying online. I don't want to lose my benefits because my job search might not be good enough.

Thanks for your help.

you put the physical address of the company, even if you apply online google the company name and find the address.

When I was collecting state EB in 2009 after tier 2 (tiers 3 & 4 were not in place at the time), I answer the "outcome" question as "not hiring" or "no response from employer to date".

You are joking, right? I hope so because what you are suggesting is FRAUD.

Anyone who doesn't start looking for another job immediately after being laid off is in for a rude awakening. The latest figures from the DOL (which always minimizes the real economic situation) indicates the average length of unemployment is 27 weeks. That is for people who are just joining the ranks of the unemployed. The longer you are out of work, the harder it is to find a job. "99" weeks is no longer available. The current program is set to expire on December 24, 2011. The way things are going, there won't be anything after that.

Thanks but no thanks! I'm doing this the right way. I may be on unemployment, but I don't encourage anyone gaming the system. People that do what you are suggesting are the reason why so many want to take away our benefits in the first place.

To everyone else, thank you for your replies. I was able to finally get a hold of a person at IDES today that knew what they were talking about, and I got the answers I needed. Online applications or Craigslist ads are acceptable. As long as I attach something showing they received my resume, like a confirmation email or reference number, a contact name is not necessary.

Thanks again everyone. Good luck to everyone with your job search

I always bcc myself on any online resumes I submit. My save box is overflowing, but I have a copy of every job I have ever applied for online.
