Re: Why the Middle-aged are up the creek
The unemployed in their 50's and 60's may be the worst casualties in this debacle. Too experienced for minimum wage jobs, too expensive to insure for small companies, too old to become indebted with student loans and intimidating to the 30 year old supervisors who do the hiring.
Their retirements will be lessened by their lack of work and Social Security earnings due to their unemployment during what should have been the highest paying years. Many are using up what little they had for retirement to survive now. You thinks its bad now, wait to see what shape these people are in 10-15 years from now. Will there be Hooverville camps for the masses of elderly in poverty?

Re: Why the Middle-aged are up the creek
Workers between the ages of 45 and 54 are still losing jobs on net, with a decline of about 364,00 jobs in this age group so far this year.
That is a very sad statistic. I am in this age group and right now, and am scared to death about my future.
