Here we go again in Texas: Drug test may soon be required to collect unemployment check

Post by Jobless_in_Ma on Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:52 pm

From the lone star state and we all know who holds the majority there.

Now pee in a cup to get your check... because.... Its obvious if you dont have a job in this recession etc you must be a druggie.

Individuals receiving unemployment benefits may soon have to submit
to drug testing or else be disqualified from receiving benefits.
The Texas Legislature is contemplating House Bill 126, filed by Rep. Ken Legler,
R–Pasadena, which would require a person filing for unemployment —
regardless of the reason they lost their job — to take a drug test
before they can receive benefits.

I guess that Texas just has money rolling out of its ears to do something so invasive and drastic as this.

A $47 million fiscal note is associated with the bill.

For people who want smaller government and less spending, they certainly can come up with ways to waste money. I guess next they will want us to foot the bill for the bi-weekly drug testing. People need to wake up and see what is really going on here. Next we will be required to live in specific areas of each state.

I realize this is a State issue but last year during one of the town halls held by Republican Congressman Mike Pence-IN, the question was asked regarding drug testing the unemployed. He responded saying, at the time, he would never vote for it because it is unconstitutional under the 4th Amendment. Apparently the Repub in Texas either hasn't read the 4th Amendment or just doesn't care about the piece of paper Repubs and their ilk claim to hold so dear *cough* when it suits them.
