We Need To Be Heard!

Please get involved with this movement. To date, Congress has not addressed the issue of Job creation or growth. Although we are getting good news on HR 589, the real problem facing the unemployed is the lack of JOBS. While the pending bill appears to be moving forward for the 99ers, it is only for 14 weeks. What the 99ers, and all the unemployed want is to return to work - to a job that pays a living wage - so we can wake up from this nightmare of "unemployed" and return to the real lives we had several years ago. It is time to take action!

ARE 99ers TOO DEPRESSED AND BROKE TO MARCH FOR JOBS AND HR 589 ON APRIL 2nd? Empty NATIONAL MARCH FOR JOBS - APRIL 2nd 2011

Post by Lynne Sat Mar 12, 2011 2:59 pm

99ers Know The Truth All Too Well but still many others have not been paying attention or reading (or caring) about what is really happening in America.

FIRST - unemployment is not 9 or 10% as reported by the department it is really over 23% because over 27 million Americans are simply no longer being counted. Nice way to "lower" the rate. Another 40 million are considered underemployed: desiring full time work but can only find part time with little or no benefits.

SECOND - these jobs that are being created are part time at $7-$10 an hour. Many 99ers have lost jobs at 40-70K+ a year. Those are not the majority of jobs that are being created. So get two or three jobs you say? Although the govenment says that there are 4.9 applicants for each job (which of course isn't enough) every HR person I have talked to will tell you that they receive hundreds and sometimes thousands of applications for each position.

THIRD - everytime you see an (obviously) propagandized headline about hundreds or thousands being hired, actually take the time to do some research. Many of the jobs are being filled "worldwide", so although some of them may be open to American workers a good many are not being filled here.

FOURTH - there is widespread discrimination nationwide against workers who are older, and many of those who have been out of work for 6 months or more are simply being told not to apply.

So, because our government is lying about the real unemployment rate; and because the new jobs being created are in no way comparable to the jobs that have been lost; and because many of the jobs being created are not even in America; and because there is widespread discrimination that is preventing older experienced workers from getting hired,

99ers - CALL TO ACTION NATIONAL MARCH FOR JOBS APRIL 2ND 2011

We are mobilizing for ACTION on this date. We are being asked to do what we can in our LOCAL HOMETOWNS on April 2nd. As we all have different gifts and talents it is up to YOU to do what you can to make this happen!

Important Note: Unless someone knows something different, this has not started as a March TO WASHINGTON. It is an effort for all of the unemployed, 99ers, supporters of HR 589 and other supporters to March IN THEIR LOCAL AREA on the same date. Of course, if people want to go to DC that is great. We are hoping that local DC people will be able to march in their own area.

Important Note2: This effort has not been started by one group - it is many people organizing ourselves on a national, state and local level. So, YOU ARE IT. Get the word out in any way possible to as many as possible so we can bring attention to our situation as a unit on this date.

Important Note3: Do not wait for the national media to show up. It is up to us to create the buzz, record the event and upload pictures and video to sites online.

Spread the word! There are forces at work to slow us down but we can not be stopped!

http://www.publicrecordsdetectivesjournal.co.cc/

Join or Start a Group Here:

http://99ers.net

SUPPORT THE EASTER PROJECT AND THE NATIONWIDE RALLY TO EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE!!!

NEEDED - Statewide groups which can then be mobilized into local groups. So first find out if there is already a group in your area that is mobilizing. If you can not find one maybe it is up to you to start it. Then meet with your group members however you all communicate to plan a course of action for that day. And remember, there can not be too many groups. If we have different groups in a particular city on that day THAT IS A GOOD THING! Just DO SOMETHING!

Hi Lynne!

Welcome! Thank you for sharing additional information on the National March for Jobs on April 2. We already have a thread for it, it was started at the beginning of the week here.

I'm going to merge this into the existing thread to make sure everyone has all the information they need.

ARE 99ers TOO DEPRESSED AND BROKE TO MARCH FOR JOBS AND HR 589 ON APRIL 2nd? Empty ARE 99ers Too Depressed And Broke To March For Jobs and HR 589 on April 2nd?

Post by Lynne Sun Mar 20, 2011 8:11 pm

ARE 99ers TOO DEPRESSED AND BROKE TO MARCH FOR JOBS AND HR 589 ON APRIL 2nd?

Here is what happened today. I was talking to a friend about the need for local organizing for the March For Jobs on April 2nd. For those of you who don't know, it's a call for 99ers to mobilize in their local areas on that date to draw attention to the needs of the unemployed and underemployed in America.

As I mentioned some of the challenges that come with any type of mobilization, she said "99ers are too broke and depressed to do any marching".

She's partially right. Most of us ARE depressed and most of us ARE broke. After working for 20, 30, 40 years and always providing for ourselves, in the span of a few years we have lost homes, cars, savings, our children's college tuition, 401Ks and what little pride we had left. If that is not bad enough, we find ourselves totally shellshocked that our President and Congress has closed their eyes and turned a deaf ear to what just a few years ago was a National Emergency when the Labor department reported unemployment was around 8%. Now that it is reported at 9% Congress and our President seem as if they could care less about unemployed Americans. They seem to be much more interested in what is happening in other countries. Where is the outrage from our elected officials?

They are strangely, and sadly silent, materializing only sporadically to draw attention to the plight of the 99ers.

We do have (as of this date) 75 cosponsors of HR 589, but they are uncommonly silent (for a politican that is) about a very large and growing part of their electorate right now.

(By the way, those 9% figures are fabricated. The real unemployment figure in America today is over 23%).

We are disgusted that the main stream media that call themselves journalists have been bought and paid for, choosing to ignore 60+ million unemployed and underemployed Americans to instead focus on Lindsey Lohan and Charlie Sheen.

We are utterly sickened that the rich have gotten significantly richer in the past few years while so many of us have lost everything.

Well, almost everything.

The one thing all 99ers have is a bit of fight within us.

If you are a 99er anywhere in America and you are reading this I know three things about you: one, you have access to an internet connection. Two, you live somewhere in the states. And three, you are either good at local organizng or you feel you are not.

We have been called upon http://www.publicrecordsdetectivesjournal.co.cc/ to mobilize on April 2nd. So, forget about what you heard about marches not working and read this UPDATE ON THE MARCH FOR JOBS April 2nd.

If you are not sure where to start in your city TAKE THESE ACTIONS NOW:

1. Go to http://www.house.gov/writerep. It will tell you who your local representative is.

2. Your congressperson is either a cosponsor of HR 589 or they are not.

3. IF THEY ARE A COSPONSOR, contact their office to see if they or a representative from their office is doing a press conference on April 2nd in support of HR 589. If they say what's that, explain that representatives nationwide who support this bill are being asked to do the same. DO NOT GIVE UP UNTIL YOU HAVE A COMMITTMENT from them to SUPPORT US in this manner. Call daily and do not stop until you have a verbal committment (and name) from their office. If they are committing
to doing a press conference ask them to add a note on their homepage about April 2nd so they will not continue to get
numerous calls. Starting TODAY and until you have a committment from your Congressperson to do a press conference start to send press releases to your LOCAL media (see below) about the upcoming March.

If you are currently organzing locally for the March on April 2nd congratulations to you and thank you!!!

We are recommending that if your Congressperson has committed to a Press Conference on April 2nd that all 99ers in that area go there to support them, and if your representative is not a cosponsor that you plan to mobilize at your local unemployment office.

4. IF YOUR CONGRESSPERSON IS NOT A COSPONSOR, write a brief press release (google: how to write a press release) about 99ers Gearing Up For the MARCH FOR JOBS on April 2nd. Use the Call To Action from the American99ersUnion.com site as a guide. Send it to every place you can in your LOCAL AREA STARTING TODAY. If your Congressperson is not on board yet maybe they will see the wisdom in joining us by the 2nd. At the very least, they will start to see buzz in their hometown.

5. Google: (your city) Press Contacts. Send this release starting NOW to all of your local press. If you feel challenged about starting a local group in your city TAKE THESE ACTIONS NOW.

So, everyone send press releases to your LOCAL PRESS about the upcoming March on April 2nd, starting today.

It's an opportunity for our Congress members to do something on this date to draw attention to HR 589, and prove to 99ers that there is still some fight left.

It's an opportunity for Congress members who have not come on board yet to prove they are not just concerned about THEIR OWN children and grandchildren, while forgetting about their electorate's children and grandchildren.

It's an opportunity for the media to prove they are journalists and to start to report what is really happening in America with the unemployed and underemployed.

And it's an opportunity for 99ers everywhere to pull together and make a stand for what is right on April 2nd. There is no individual leader of this movement. It is up to YOU to make this happen all across America.

Spread the word everyday from now til April 2nd. Send a link to this site.

I am ... Depressed broke and let down... I had a dream yesterday when I was napping that I was sinking into death for me these are night terrors.. Had before and in my dream I always fight not yesterday I thought just let go.. well I woke up and before anyone sends police to my door I wont hurt myself not that kind.. but what scared me was for the FIRST time... and I have has these for about 4 years. I just wanted to let go.

So yes I am depressed and I have given up on any extension or help from anyone in Washington But note under another topic I did call my rep Brad Sherman to be ignored and spoke to as if his office had never heard of 99ers....

Hey, judi, we all feel like that. Today I just want to go back to bed, cover my head with the blankets and sleep for a few days. I am sick of feeling like this also.

The person you talked to in your Rep.'s office probably gave you that impression to avoid answering your question.

We can't afford to have even one person drop out of this fight. Even when we are so depressed we don't want to even leave the house, we have to remember that unless they see our faces and hear our voices, we will be forgotten again.

Don't let them win. Put a face on the 99er's, not just an email or a fax. It is time to get out and rally to raise public awareness. That is the only way this will get done. Push yourself out the door on April 2. I am looking for a rally in my area because I want to work.

Please don't give up. We need you!
